I don't really understand the abortion zealots. It seems to me that denying birth to a conceived fetus is a major moral dilemma. Who says destroying the unborn is a worthy endeavor? What about protecting the defenseless?

Okay, so here's the medical science on the unborn, a fetal heartbeat can be detected at six weeks. If there's a human heartbeat, it has to come from a person, correct? Am I flunking biology? I don't think so.
Also, medical researchers and scientists believe a fetus can feel pain at 20 weeks. Is it permissible for a doctor to inflict suffering on an unborn baby? Is that what civilized people do?
I am fully aware that abortion is an emotional issue with powerful implications for any thinking woman. But there are definitely two sides to this life-death situation.
However, for progressives, there is only the "abortion is worthy" side. You cannot be a member of their movement if you are pro-life. You are not respected by the abortion zealots; you are reviled.
But why? Surely, those life support folks are operating on high moral ground. Saving lives is a good thing, is it not?
Of course, harming a pregnant woman is unacceptable, and those who do that should be condemned. But persuasion is not an attack on "rights." Defending the defenseless is not fascism.
Bitter partisan politics has taken humanitarian priorities completely out of the abortion debate. There should be sane protection for both mother and unborn child. Someone tell our craven politicians.
