Being Extra Generous in the Pandemic
September 9, 2020

I eat out at restaurants a lot. It’s not that I can’t cook – it’s more that I am too lazy to cook.

I used to tip 15% for standard service, 20% for good service, 10% for bad service.

Since the pandemic, I’ve upped my tipping amounts. I now tip 25% for good service – I know that’s a lot, but I really feel for the people in the restaurants right now.

Standard service now gets a 20% tip. I kept bad service the same as before at 10%, because it’s their job to ensure to customer has a good experience. If they don’t, I can’t tip them any higher than 10%.

So, I recommend that we all be extra generous to Americans who are trying to make a living during the pandemic.
