This year, eight states have passed new laws who require voters to show photo identification at the polls. That makes 15 states which require a photo id to vote.

Some liberal Americans object to ID laws saying they put the poor at a disadvantage because they might not have IDs. My question is why can't they get IDs? What is the duty of a citizen? It's to cooperate in the voting process, is it not? The ID laws are obviously there to inhibit illegal aliens and other people not entitled to vote. Isn't that a good thing? Are we not a nation of laws? What is the beef?

The Justice Department is responsible for making sure each state conducts a fair election. So Attorney General Eric Holder has to sign off on any new ID law. And Holder says he is concerned.

I guess he's referring to Jim Crowe laws or something to show an ID. To me, the Attorney General's rhetoric is theoretical. If he thinks a state is abusing the electoral process, he should say that. Right now Mississippi is proposing the toughest voting law because it would require a government issued photo ID. Most other states accept all kinds of identification.

Let's take Wisconsin, for example. The ACLU is suing that state saying the use of a photo ID imposes a severe burden on the right to vote and violates the Fourteenth Amendment... severe burden.

Again, this is just insane. In many cases you need a photo ID to buy cigarettes. Wisconsin will accept a driver's license, a passport, an ID card issued by an Indian tribe, a student ID and most other forms of ID with your picture on it. I mean, come on. That's a severe burden? What a crock.

This whole thing comes down to voter fraud. We have it in every election. States want to make it more difficult to break the law in voting. So they've imposed reasonable requirements and yet, the left objects. That's "The Memo."
