Imagine you’re a host or producer at MS NOW, CNN, or The View. The nation’s 250th birthday is nearing, and most Americans will celebrate the world’s oldest surviving democracy. But even if you have an urge to join the festivities, you'll have to curb your enthusiasm if you want to remain in good standing with your left-wing peers. Any praise of this nation’s astonishing success must be tempered with heaping helpings of criticism. Maybe you’ll bring up slavery or internment camps or a lack of universal health care … or Trump! Just make sure you find something, anything, to downgrade the United States of America.
Most of you reading this probably believe we are fortunate to be living in the greatest nation ever created, but that’s far from a universal sentiment. According to one new poll, 87% of Democrats believe the USA is not living up to the ideals of its founding documents. 87%! Dig deeper into the socialist/communist nether regions, and the number is probably 100%. Only 29% of Democrats are ‘very or extremely’ proud of the country; fewer than one-third will fly the Stars & Stripes on July 4th. Sadly, there is a large contingent of Americans who believe the very worst of their nation. They’ve been indoctrinated by ‘progressive’ educators and got their civics lessons from the likes of Howard Zinn, whose ‘A People’s History of the United States’ is as influential as it is anti-American.
So while you’re celebrating Independence Day, consider that millions will be grieving because they believe the USA has been a negative force in the world. A few shameful examples:
- Some far-left groups are preparing to protest in many cities. It’s all being organized by ‘Next250,’ which wants to retell US history ‘from the perspectives and contributions of women of color and other marginalized identities.’ That word ‘marginalized’ is always a flashing red light indicating that you have entered the Twilight Zone of lefty insanity.
- The Atlantic, a favorite read among the chattering classes, includes this gem: ‘It’s our 250th birthday, and no one seems to know what we’re celebrating.’ How about the fact that no nation or system has ever given more people such an abundance of freedom and opportunity?
- Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, echoing other Democrats, also laments her nation and its history. ‘The next 250 years,’ she says, ‘cannot look like the last. The next 250 years must be about repair.’
The list of complainers and malcontents is endless. There are tens of millions of Americans who will never utter one good word about this nation, especially when Donald Trump (or any Republican) is in the White House.
As for our hypothetical left-wing TV producers, they will complain, bellyache, and carp about the USA. We offer them some advice that will certainly go unheeded: Down a few hot dogs, have a couple of beers, unfurl Old Glory, and give eternal thanks to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence and ignited the greatest experiment in human history. If the signers were magically transported to 2026 America, they would probably wonder why so many people spend their lives complaining about the freest and most prosperous nation on Earth, a land where their progeny are indeed able to enjoy precisely what they promised 250 years ago: ‘Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.’
