One of the awful things about the collapse of public education is that most Americans lack a fundamental understanding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Therefore, when the Supreme Court declared New York State's refusal to allow law-abiding citizens to carry legally purchased handguns unconstitutional, there was immediately an insane amount of gibberish hoisted on the public.

About two million Americans heard the far-left ladies on The View posit that because of the ruling, we New Yorkers are in far more danger. According to the women, Wild West shootouts will soon erupt. Paging Wyatt Earp!

What these nincompoops fail to understand is that criminals already have handguns, and they didn't buy them from honest dealers who have to impose extensive background checks the thugs would never endure.  You can't buy a handgun in New York or California or many other states without having your entire life scrutinized. Joey the pusher is not going to do that.

So, vicious criminals are armed, and innocent civilians are not. Last year there were 37,000 violent crimes committed in New York State. Almost all the victims were unarmed.

So, give me a break, please. The Founders wanted honest people to be able to protect themselves from evil predators - that's the right to bear arms.

It will still be difficult to buy a pistol and get a carry permit in New York. But now it's not impossible.
