It’s Friday, meaning Bill and Beck had yet another lively interview on “The Glenn Beck Show” where they covered the biggest topics of the week.
To start the interview off, Beck asked Bill about this sudden uprising against guns. Bill made an astute comment saying that Trump didn’t want to sell guns to people under 21, but he couldn’t get the bill passed because it wasn’t well received in D.C.
Under current law, licensed gun dealers can sell a handgun to someone 21 years old and sell a rifle to someone who is 18. President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Rick Scott have expressed support for raising the age limit for rifle sales, but the National Rifle Association has rejected any such move. Additionally, Trump supports the Fix NICS Act. The bill, which has so far stalled in Congress, pushes federal agencies to better report criminal records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) with the threat of financial penalties and encourages states to do the same with financial incentives. In February, Trump signed a memo directing the attorney general to propose regulations that “ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns,” like the bump stocks that a gunman used to kill 58 people and injure hundreds more in that 2017 Las Vegas shooting.
Beck transitions into another aspect of the gun controversy saying that investment bank, Citigroup, has said it will introduce new restrictions on business customers who sell guns. Citigroup said it would not work with firms that sell guns to customers who have not passed a background check or who are younger than 21. It has also barred the sale of bump stocks and high-capacity magazines. The measures would apply to clients who offer credit cards supported by Citigroup or borrow money or use banking services through the firm. Bill says it’s just a cover because it’s impossible for Citigroup to monitor all of these companies. This is just a symbolic statement, but Bill says, if I owned a retail store that sold guns, I would say that I won’t do business with you either because there are a million other places that I could go to.
Americans have decided in this situation that they want to be able to defend themselves and they aren’t going to buy into the far-left vision that the government will control how you defend yourself. Beck brings up a good point, there are approximately 10 big banks now and if they decide to follow in Citigroup’s footsteps you will see gun stores not be able to get any loans, lines of credit, they won’t be able to take out any credit cards, so theoretically they’ll be shutting down the second amendment. Bill says that’s probably the backdoor way that this is happening so somebody should sue Citibank and tell them that what they’re doing is unconstitutional, then let’s see how the court rules. Beck ends the conversation saying that if you are a gun store he hopes that you switch from Citigroup to another bank.
Beck goes on to ask Bill what he thinks of the spending bill. Bill replies, that the government spends far too much money and they don’t care how much the debt is. But, if Trump is going to survive as a president, he’s got to keep the machine rolling. Beck brings up the point, that Trump said today that he may veto this spending bill because it doesn’t include the DREAM Act. Bill says there’s no way that he’ll veto the spending bill. He’s just trying to play a political game to make the Democrats look bad.
President Donald Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on his re-election last Tuesday. Earlier in the day, aides included a section in Trump’s briefing materials stating: “DO NOT CONGRATULATE [Putin],” but of course Trump didn’t pay any attention to that memo and it’s still unknown if he even saw it. Bill says that in order to get through to Trump you have to personalize everything. If someone didn’t want Trump to congratulate Putin they should have put a negative spin on it and told him something like “in recent phone calls Putin has called you a moron.” If they had said something of that nature, Trump wouldn’t have congratulated him. There has to be a personal attachment to Trump in order for him to consider the point.
Beck goes on to bring up the twitter fight between Former VP Joe Biden and President Trump. Former Vice President Joe Biden attacked President Donald Trump during a speech on March 20, when Biden, 75, was giving a talking to students at the University of Miami. He said, “A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it.’” Biden went on to say, “They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.’” Biden took things even a step further saying, “I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life. I’m a pretty damn good athlete. Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest SOB in the room.”
Thursday morning, Trump responded to Biden’s comments on twitter saying, “Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!”
So, Beck goes on to ask Bill, in a fight who would win? Biden or Trump? Bill says he would bet on Biden because Biden could grab Trump by the hair. Beck says he thinks Biden would run around the ring trying to avoid Trump. But Trump would win because he has some heft to him and he has this pent-up anger so he’d pummel Biden into the ground.
Beck ends the interview reiterating Bill’s prediction that the media would go crazy over Trump and make his presidency all about affairs, women and the #METOO movement, and Bill was spot on because that’s all they’re concentrating on.
