President Trump’s excellent Chinese adventure turned out to be pretty good except for the Taiwan thing. As I reported, Beijing wants to control the island/nation and was blunt about it. Mr. Trump did not publicly engage, which was smart.
Taiwan is an emotional issue for the communists, even though its independence means little to the world. The controversy goes back to 1949, when Chiang Kai-shek escaped to the island just before Mao could cut his head off. We write about this in my book “Confronting Evil.”
China sees no reason to moderate its stance on Taiwan, so the situation will not go away. To America, it’s a distraction.
On the Iran front, it is likely China will help out somewhat. But we won’t know exactly how. That will be done secretly. But Xi understands Iran is bad for his business and has no loyalty to the Mullahs.
Expect the usual media undermining of the trip, even though the American press is essentially clueless about how the communists are behaving. We are not. We’ll have a full report on Monday.
