While there’s no denying that the United States is not perfect and there have been missteps throughout our history, there is a delusion among many on the left that the United States today is comparable to countries that continue to act atrociously.

Let’s look at Silicon Valley billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya’s recent comments dismissing the plight of  China’s Muslim Uyghur population.

Keep in mind that China is holding roughly a million Muslim Uyghurs in concentration camps!

Palihapitiya says the Uyghurs don’t make the cut for his concerns, stating there are “more important” things concerning him, like the potential economic consequences of China invading Taiwan.

Palihapitiya, a minority owner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors who expressed his opinion freely on his podcast, turned his criticism towards his own country (he holds U.S. and Canadian citizenship), yapping about fight clubs in New York’s Riker’s Island prison.

Let’s be clear: in the year 2022, there is nothing this country does regarding Human Rights that is comparable to what China does. 

While the Biden administration may be afraid to speak up and do anything about injustice in China, billionaires like Palihapitiya could stop doing business with China and perhaps have a speedier impact on a dire situation.

But that won’t put money in the billionaire’s bank account.

Palihapitiya should consider taking his money and at least buy some real empathy.
