The Debate

Will watch the Republican debate tonight and tweet or X throughout. My expectations are fairly low because while the candidates are patriotic, incisive questioning will be non-existent.

The format allows uninterrupted responses, which means candidates can drift all over the place. Expect some shots at Trump but outside of Chris Christie; those should be mild.

My four live history shows with the former president were very illuminating. This is what I learned. The policy was always tied to a deal. For example, Mr. Trump managed to get Mexico to stop the mass migration by threatening to wage war on the cartels, which Obrador did not want.

Trump managed to suppress Putin's evil by helping him make money in the European energy market. The same thing with powerful American companies; the former president lifted regulations and tamped down taxes so profits flowed. That benefited American workers as well.

It was all dealing, all the time.

What really angered Trump was he received no credit for his successes from the media. So, he often lashed out and became somewhat paranoid, which led to poor decision-making in the final days.

His GOP challengers, in general, don't understand any of that. Maybe they have solutions to vexing problems, and that's what I will be looking for this evening. Bashing Biden will be on display, but that's really not that important. Creative problem solving is.

Follow @BillOReilly this evening. It will be worthwhile.
