It looks to me, based on reading and watching news coverage, that most national journalists are rooting for a conviction in the Trump/hush-money case.
You are not supposed to "root" if you are a journalist, but that rule was shattered years ago. Now, ideology dominates news coverage in the USA.
If Trump is convicted in this case, the country will be divided even further. Is that a good thing, NBC News? Will you tamp down the celebration on MSNBC?
Not likely.
Over at CNN, the words "let's get this party started" come to mind. At Fox News there will be some frowns and head-shaking to keep the customers satisfied, as Paul Simon once sang.
So here's my trial take based on an acute knowledge of Donald Trump and much experience with New York City, a liberal wellness spa.
The former president told his former lawyer to deal with accusations that were clearly designed to harvest money just days before the 2016 election. Trump just wanted the thing to vanish. There is zero evidence he even thought about campaign funding statutes.
Repeat. Zero evidence.
In order to convict, there has to be "criminal intent," as the nation saw with the Hillary Clinton private email thing.
So, simple man that I am, I can't see a conviction, but, of course, I could be wrong. If Trump hatred runs deep among the jurors, emotional angst will override the lack of evidence.
We'll know shortly. But we already know the intent of the press. Don't we?
See you this evening for the No Spin News.
