Just finished analyzing a University of Chicago study that says about 30 percent of Americans now actually despise the federal government so much that they believe it might be necessary to take up "arms" against it.

That rather extreme point of view cuts across both liberal and conservative ideologies, according to the University.

Now, I believe the study because of the dishonest American media, both corporate and social, which makes millions of dollars peddling political hatred.

Whether it's Donald Trump, Joe Biden, the Supreme Court, or high-profile individuals like me, your humble correspondent, the demonization is so intense it is stoking violent thoughts.

The internet is especially vicious, with hatred on display every second.

Only a restructuring of defamation laws could blunt the hate movement. And with the powerful corporate lobbies, that is not likely to happen.

Freedom of speech is imperative, but some restraint is needed to avoid a complete breakdown in civility. And that is what social media and corporate corruption have brought us.
