The Factor Rundown
Thursday: Bias in the News, Clinton/Trump's Economic Plans
The Press and the Presidential Election
"It is no secret that most in the media despise Donald Trump and coverage of the candidate reflects that. Talking Points is sure supporters of Hillary Clinton would acknowledge that, even if she herself gets pounded on occasion. That clear bias in hard news reporting is now reflected in a new Gallup Poll. Before I give you the shocking numbers, listen to this sound bite from one of CNN's best hard news reporters, Christiane Amanpour: 'Talk about a transparency breakdown! What about Donald Trump's tax returns? Where are they? Can't a girl have a sick day or two?' Ms. Amanpour has had a distinguished career as a fact-finding journalist, so why is she giving her pro-Hillary Clinton opinion? She's not an analyst. How can viewers now accept her information, especially about the campaign, without being skeptical? Americans know what's going on. According to that new Gallup Poll, just 32% of us trust the news to be reported fairly and accurately. That is the lowest media trust number in Gallup's history on the subject. Editors of many press operations now believe they are on a mission to save the USA from a guy like Trump and the 'deplorables' who support him. Same thing on the Clinton side. A few, and I mean few, news concerns believe she is not honest and are out to get her. That kind of advocacy hurts the folks. This coming presidential vote is extremely important for the country and Americans deserve honest reportage. Sadly, we are not getting it."

Media analyst Bernie Goldberg joined The Factor with his take on the subject. "Too many people on the left," he stressed, "think the media is not tough enough with Donald Trump, and too many people on the right think the media is unfair to Trump. That explains why only 32% of the American people and only 14% of Republicans have confidence and trust in the media." Goldberg theorized that many viewers actually want media outlets to root for their side. "America in general is polarized and the media landscape is polarized. People say they are against bias, but they are not. They are only against the kind of bias that hurts their candidate."
Trump and Clinton's Economic Policies
Donald Trump gave an economic address Thursday in which he promised more jobs and healthy economic growth. Fox Business anchors Maria Bartiromo and Trish Regan evaluated Trump's plan. "The headline here is that he is looking for economic growth," Bartiromo said, "and he has four things that he thinks will spur that growth - tax reform, tapping into this country's energy resources, renegotiating trade deals, and scaling back regulation. 3,000 new rules were put in place last year alone by the Obama administration!" Regan suggested that Trump's recent rise in the polls is due in part to his economic message. "Every election comes down to how people feel about themselves and the future. Trump is now talking about these issues that are so important to people, issues like family income."
Trump Foundation Investigation
The Washington Post has published an investigative piece that raises questions about the Trump Foundation. Fox News anchor Eric Shawn injected some truth serum into the report. "The argument is that the Trump Foundation," Shawn said, "has not given money to charities that they claim that they did. They also say Trump spent $20,000 of foundation money for a portrait of himself." FNC's Shannon Bream turned to America's most prestigious universities, where professors are overwhelmingly liberal. "Over the last three election cycles, 90% of the donations made by faculty and staff have gone to Democrats. And it's gotten progressively worse, this year the average is 94% to Democrats. Worst on the list are Brown, Yale, and Penn, where more than 97% of faculty and staff donations go to Democrats."
Breaking Down the Latest Polls
A new CBS News/New York Times poll of likely voters has Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump tied, while a Fox News poll shows Secretary Clinton up by just one point. The Factor put forth this analysis of Trump's recent upswing: "The one-two punch of 'deplorables' and ill health have set Hillary Clinton back. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is spending most of his time on policy, not mocking people. He is looking less like a loose cannon and his new team is much more disciplined. Trump now has momentum and if Hillary Clinton has just one more health problem, things could get very dicey for her. The most important polls will come right after the first debate. If one of them cracks on that stage, that could be it! Many savvy Democrats are stunned that the race is so close, but Donald Trump is hanging tough. Hillary Clinton has a powerful political machine behind her, while Trump is doing it largely on his own."
Oliver Stone on new Snowden Movie
Director Oliver Stone's latest offering focuses on Edward Snowden, the former CIA employee who leaked classified information. Stone entered the No Spin Zone with more on his film and his view of Snowden. "I stay away from the politics," he claimed, "and I try to stick to my role as a dramatist. I did movies about Nixon and Bush and I was criticized by some on the left for not making Bush more demonic. This film is empathetic to Snowden, but I'm not trying to lead you, I'm trying to lay out a story that happened. We don't know a lot about the CIA and the NSA, and President Obama has doubled down on the Bush administration's surveillance and other forms of warfare. Governments lie and they protect their own interests." The Factor reminded Stone, "Most Americans want more security, but they don't want individuals like Snowden to reveal national secrets that could cost lives."
Watters' World: Who Will You Vote For?
Jesse Watters will be dropping in on Clinton and Trump rallies to talk with their supporters. His first stop was a Donald Trump event, where some Trump backers said this: "I am proudly a deplorable" ... "I'm not a doctor, but she doesn't have pneumonia" ... "I'm a veteran, I'm in law enforcement, I've raised good kids, and I don't know what's deplorable about me" ... "I am a 1,000% pro-Trump voter" ... "I'm not wild about either candidate, but my wife convinced me to vote for Trump" ... "He'll stimulate our economy and bring crime down." Being eternally fair and immeasurably balanced, Watters will pay a visit a Hillary Clinton rally and report back with his findings.

Factor Words of the Day
Andrew Smith, Colorado Springs, CO: "Bill, pot shops in Colorado take your ID and scan it so people cannot go shopping and assemble large quantities of marijuana. Quit demonizing pot. Drinking is a way more serious problem."

Jonathan Reed, Fort Belvoir, VA: "As a military family, we are boycotting the NFL because of Colin Kaepernick and the other protesters. We no longer respect the NFL."
