Wednesday: Paul Ryan Enters The No Spin Zone
Do Something!
"Today Donald Trump once again criticized President Obama for not using the words 'radical Islamic terrorism.' He also made a new insinuation against the president, that he is protecting Hillary Clinton in the email investigation. Trump claimed, 'She is being totally protected.' Whatever else is said about Donald Trump, he is the most provocative presidential candidate perhaps in American history. There is no question that President Obama is not winning hearts and minds on the terror front. That's because his methodical approach to neutralizing ISIS has not worked, as we pointed out last night. The savages may be losing individual fights, but their jihad is alive and well. And after watching 49 innocent Americans murdered in Orlando, most of us want action. Do something! But if President Obama and by extension Hillary Clinton continue to hold power, there will not be drastic action taken by the USA against ISIS or anybody else. That's just the way it is. Donald Trump has capitalized on that; his two big issues are the economy and terrorism. He says the USA must ban Muslims at least in the short term from coming to America from areas that have terrorism. Talking Points does not believe that kind of ban would make us safer. We need the Jordanians, we need some of the Gulf states, we need Morocco to help us fight the savages, especially in the intelligence area. However, as I told Mr. Trump earlier this week, every refugee seeking asylum in this country has to be vetted extensively. No one from a terror area can just take up residence here without ICE knowing exactly what they've done in their lives. By the way, even with extensive vetting, that doesn't mean terrorists will not get in. They will, they're here, and in European countries some of the refugees have already committed terrorist acts. So this is one big mess and there are no easy solutions, as everybody knows. But with President Obama hesitating to use the words 'radical Islamic terrorism' the perception in some quarters is he is not as tough as he could be on the jihad. And that gives a big advantage to Donald Trump in his quest to become president."
Orlando Shooter's Wife Under Suspicion
Oman Mateen's wife Noor Salman is being investigated for her possible role in the Orlando attack. Fox News correspondent Catherine Herridge provided the latest. "There is video of the wife and the husband purchasing ammunition prior to the attacks," she stated. "Based on our information, she has submitted to at least two interviews with the FBI. She reportedly knew he was planning a terrorist attack and she helped with his surveillance by driving him to The Pulse nightclub." The Factor contended that Noor Salman could well spend many years in prison: "If she drove him to the nightclub and she drove with him to buy ammunition, I don't think the case will be very hard to make. If this is true, she's done!"
Paul Ryan on Trump's Muslim Ban
The Factor welcomed Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who has been at odds with his fellow Republican Donald Trump and a proposed temporary ban on Muslim immigration. "I actually think that a ban based on religion," Ryan asserted, "is counter-productive to our efforts to fight terrorism. More importantly, we believe in the First Amendment and freedom of religion. I think there should be a security test where you can properly vet people coming in. It would be based not on religion, but on security." Ryan also opined on the suggestion that the USA declare war against the jihad. "We should declare war on ISIS and these other groups, but President Obama wants to tie the hands of the military. He will not accept an authorization of military force that does not completely hamstring his successor. We find that unacceptable."
Alligator Attack at Disney
During a family visit to Disney World, two-year-old Lane Graves drowned after being dragged into a lagoon by an alligator. The Factor spoke about the tragedy with Jeff Quattrocci, an expert on gators. "A lot of people come here from the Midwest," Quattrocci said, "and they have no idea that there's an apex predator living here in Florida. The alligator has been around for about 150-million years, it's very strong and very stealth. But it's up to us to let people know that alligators are here - every lagoon and every body of fresh water could potentially have an alligator." The Factor grumbled, "This situation is pretty much out of control."
Miller Weighs in on the Orlando Shooting
An unusually somber Dennis Miller opined on the terrorism in Florida. "I've seen a lot of people on TV being heartfelt and wise," he began, "but I'm going to stop at heartfelt because I don't have any wisdom. I'm kind of laid low by this, I don't have any idea other than God bless the people who passed and the people who survived them." Miller beseeched our political leaders to seek some measure of unity and compromise. "Everyone is going to have to give a little, but my feeling is that absolutely no one is going to give a little. Everyone is dug in."
Racy Ads in The London Subway
Sadiq Khan, the newly-elected Muslim Mayor of London, has banned subway ads that show scantily-clad women. FNC anchor Gretchen Carlson elaborated on the story. "The mayor has two teenage daughters," she reported, "and he is trying to create an environment where they don't feel shamed and don't feel they have to be perfect. I would love to agree with him, but then you would have to go to reality TV and regular TV and all advertisements. He has the power to do this because of the public viewing of these ads in the subway, but where do you stop?"
