Talking Points Memo & Top Story
San Fran values vs. terror tactics
Guests: Dr. Frank Newport, Gallup Poll & Lawrence Shiman, Fox News/Opinion Dynamics

"The big reason I think voter turnout will be low is that many Americans don't like either choice. On one side there's a bloody stalemate in Iraq, a failure to secure the southern border, and 'corruption du jour.' On the other side there's no plan to fight terror, a fanaticism about raising taxes, and a social outlook based on San Francisco values. As listed in my book 'Culture Warrior,' here are some San Francisco values: cradle-to-grave entitlements for the poor, with a punishing tax rate to pay for them; an anti-military attitude; legalized drugs, unfettered abortion rights, rehab - not punishment - for many dangerous criminals, no restrictions on the southern border, and anti-Christian attitude. These are just a few of the values San Franciscans embrace in their secular progressive paradise. There's no question the nation's most liberal city does not reflect the traditional values of most Americans. The city's standard bearer Nancy Pelosi is about to become one of the most powerful people in the country if the vote goes the Democrat way. The ACLU, of course, is thrilled, George Soros is delirious, the Hollywood ultra-left is revving up the party big time. But the rest of us are left with an unsettling feeling. Yes, Iraq's a mess, but what's on the horizon isn't exactly a vision of comfort either."

The Factor was joined by two polling experts who sifted through the latest pre-election data. Lawrence Shiman predicted that neither party is likely to emerge dominant on Tuesday. "It's going to be very difficult for the Democrats to take back the Senate, but there are a lot of House races in play and Democrats have better than a 50-50 chance of taking the House." Frank Newport went farther out on a limb. "The probability is high that Democrats will win the House. That's despite the fact that over the weekend we saw some narrowing in the race. I agree that the Senate will be tougher for the Democrats." The Factor added that two much-watched Senate races seem to be leaning toward the GOP. "Virginia looks to me to be breaking to the Republican candidate George Allen. That's because the gay marriage amendment is going to get out the conservative Christian vote in Virginia. And in Maryland, I see Republican Michael Steele beating Ben Cardin because of the surge of African Americans voting for Steele."
Impact Segment
Lynne Cheney & Wolf Blitzer
Guest: Lynne Cheney

Lynne Cheney recently gave CNN's Wolf Blitzer an on-air dressing-down, accusing the network of airing terrorist propaganda and even questioning whether CNN wants America to win the war on terror. Mrs. Cheney entered the No Spin Zone and explained what happened. "I had watched a CNN series called 'Broken Government' the night before, and it really set my mind spinning about the distorted view people were getting about the vice president and the government. I had also seen the footage they aired of a US soldier being killed by a sniper." The Factor asked Mrs. Cheney how she and her husband deal with the vicious personal attacks depicting the administration as "evil men and war mongers." "I do try to limit my exposure to hostile media," Mrs. Cheney responded. "You have to for the sake of your sanity. But there's a real problem with the lack of diversity in newsrooms as far as political opinions go."

Returning for a second segment, Lynne Cheney talked about her book "Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America." Mrs. Cheney described the book as a patriotic travelogue of the nation's most historic sites. "I hope the book makes clear to families and kids how amazing the country is and the wonderful sites there are to see. It's really important to let our kids know how lucky they are to be Americans." The Factor gave the book an enthusiastic recommendation. "Your book is fun, and I agree with you - once you get the kids out there they learn an enormous amount. It's a tremendous country, and kids are not getting that in school."
Factor Follow Up Segment
More on Dr. George Tiller
Guest: Megan Mosack, WIBW

Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline has been investigating abortionist Dr. George Tiller for allegedly failing to report the rapes of very young girls, and for performing late-term abortions merely because a woman is "depressed." But Kline is up for re-election, and his opponent is reportedly benefiting from huge contributions by Dr. Tiller. "We have a late-term abortionist," reported talk radio host Megan Mosack, "who is intent on buying the office of attorney general. He has put hundreds of thousands of dollars into political action committees that send out mailings accusing the Kline of going through women's medical records. It's a compete distortion of the facts." The Factor worried that innocent Kansas citizens will suffer if Phil Kline is defeated. "We don't endorse candidates here, but it would be a colossal mistake. Society must afford some protection for viable babies and children who are raped."
Personal Story Segment
SF Chronicle defends "San Fran values"
Guests: Fox News analysts Michelle Malkin & Kirsten Powers

The San Francisco Chronicle is defending the city's liberal values and its leading politician Nancy Pelosi. But Fox News analyst Michelle Malkin claimed that Pelosi is far out of step with mainstream America. "Nancy Pelosi campaigned against things like San Francisco hosting the USS Missouri battleship. To deny that is completely specious, but she donning a 'moderate' Halloween costume. No one should be fooled by it. There is a huge amount of power potentially held in her hands." FNC analyst Kirsten Powers countered that even if Democrats regain the House, Pelosi will not be able to enact a radical agenda. "She's going to have a fairly conservative caucus to deal with. A lot of the people coming in are moderate to conservative Democrats and she's going to have to work with them. Yes, she's very liberal, but she's not going to be able to impose that."

Suicide bombers documentary
Guest: Director Pierre Rehov

The documentary "Suicide Killers" examines men and women willing to sacrifice their own lives in order to kill others. Director Pierre Rehov told The Factor that he interviewed 45 Palestinians intent on martyrdom. "They all believe they're acting in the name of Allah. This is not a territorial fight between Israel and Palestinians; it's a fight between Western civilization and Islam itself. These people draw a line between purity and impurity, and anything not Islamic is not pure." The Factor applauded Rehov's film, despite its pessimistic message. "You're saying moderate Muslims are afraid to confront these militants. If that's true, there's no solution to this problem because if you can't get to them through other Muslims, how are you and me going to get them to stop? We hope 'Suicide Killers" gets nominated for an Academy Award, because it will then play in all the theaters. It's an important piece of work."
Factor Mail
Viewers sound off
Many of you sent e-mails about Kansas late-term abortionist Dr. George Tiller. Some excerpts:

Rebecca Decker, New Orleans, LA: "I was depressed for a time during my pregnancy but came out of it. Depression should never be used as a legal 'loophole' for abortion."

Theresa Schoen, Augusta, KS: "I drive past Tiller's office every day. It breaks my heart that babies are being treated worse than animals."

Jack Kirby, Cleburne, TX: "Bill, shame on you for being rude to Amy Richards. You were insulting."

Lynn Saunders, Littleton, CO: "Bill, you have become overly emotional on this subject."

Adam Feldman, Blauvelt, NY: "Bill, I have to admit that I thought you were overly dramatic with this whole 'culture warrior' deal. That is until I heard Amy Richards defending late-term abortions and the failure to turn in men who rape ten-year olds."

Charles Auerbach, Camarillo, CA: "Bill, you nor the government have the right to govern how a woman uses her body."
