"Cutting through the fog, the U.S. attorney controversy is about one thing - trying to discredit President Bush. The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, despises the president and is trying to get him. Leahy understands that all presidents have the legal right to fire any federal prosecutors they want, so there is no illegality in play. But Leahy also realizes the whole thing is an embarrassment to President Bush, and that the American press will hammer Bush incessantly. Talking Points, however, agrees with Leahy that we should know why the eight federal prosecutors were fired. So I was happy when President Bush said Karl Rove and others would talk in front of Leahy's committee. Leahy should be happy as well if he's really sincere about wanting to know what happened. But again, I believe the U.S. attorneys are a sideshow to partisan politics. We've invited Senator Leahy to set me straight any time he wants; if any of the fired attorneys want to come on The Factor, I'll put them on; if any Democratic senator believes I'm wrong, we have a spot for them; and if Attorney General Gonzales wants to tell the country why he sacked the prosecutors, we are here for him."

Guests: Doug McIntyre, KABC-AM & Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce
After radio host Rush Limbaugh accused California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of selling out to Democrats, the governor called Limbaugh "irrelevant." FNC contributor Tammy Bruce explained why conservatives are disappointed in Schwarzenegger. "There was hope that he was an authentic, legitimate conservative, but none of us anticipated the level of influence his wife Maria would have. And it's disappointing because she is really a hard core leftist. " Radio host Doug McIntyre pointed out that Schwarzenegger never claimed to be a rock-ribbed conservative. "He's an incredibly charming and charismatic guy, and people projected onto Arnold what they wanted to believe. They rejected the obvious signs that there was no core of conservatism." But The Factor replied that Schwarzenegger is still conservative by California standards. "I'm not surprised by any of this. He's a liberal Republican but compared to what he's running against in California, he is an amazing conservative."

Guest: Lisa Pinto, former New York City Assistant District Attorney
A young woman in New York City was murdered, allegedly by Hemant Megnath, who was free on bail after being charged with raping the same woman in 2005. Former New York City prosecutor Lisa Pinto declared that Megnath should not have been walking the streets. "He was indicted on forcible rape. He started threatening the woman and calling her in-laws, demanding that they tell him where she was. Then he was arrested again, but nothing happened." The Factor theorized that New York authorities are inundated. "These people have so many cases, and this woman is dead because in this city of 8-million people they are overwhelmed, and judges are so lenient on bail that these kinds of guys walk around."

Guest: Parry Aftab, WiredSafety.org
The mainstream media have been relatively silent about 51-year old Charles Rust-Tierney, the former Virginia ACLU boss who was arrested for possessing hard-core child pornography. Attorney Parry Aftab explained that child porn is usually far more than nude photos. "These are images of children being raped and tortured. It is made by child sex trafficking rings, or by people who are molesting children in their own homes. They create Internet sites, push a button and upload this stuff." The Factor complained that many in the media don't treat this as a dangerous crime. "The press does not take child pornography seriously enough because they don't see it as being that bad. But you have rings of people abusing kids in front of a camera."

Why is the ACLU, metaphorically speaking, in bed with the North American Man-Boy Love Association? The Factor replayed a 2002 interview in which ACLU's John Reinstein explained why his organization was defending NAMBLA, which was sued by the family of a boy who was murdered by a predator. "This is about freedom of speech," Reinstein pronounced. "The murderer looked at NAMBLA's web site, read their magazines, and he killed Jeffrey Curley. The material might be offensive, but there's nothing illegal about it." The Factor vehemently disputed that proposition. "I can not believe you don't see NAMBLA as a criminal organization. It is set up for one purpose - to encourage child molestation and rape. You're telling me that's not a criminal enterprise? I'm telling you you're crazy."

| One week ago Dennis Miller empathized with Cindy Sheehan, claiming that losing a son in Iraq excuses her anti-America rhetoric. On Wednesday's program The Factor told Miller why he disagreed. "People in my neighborhood have children in the military, and one was just killed. The parents believe their son gave his life for a noble effort, but Cindy Sheehan goes all over the world and tells people how bad the USA is. I think that insults others who have lost children." Miller defended and reiterated his prior position. "It is such an utter devastation to lose a child that I can't pass judgment on what she does. She paid the ultimate ante." On a far different subject, Miller spoke about how he's teaching his 16-year old son about alcohol and drugs. "Last week I went to Texas and took him along. It was spring break, and he saw the good side and the bad side - people so loaded they were passed out on the street. 16-year olds are primal creatures and I don't think you can tell him to mute down all his libidinal instincts. But I want him to see that there are consequences, and sometimes those consequences can be deadly." |
Guests: Attorney Allison Gilman & Panama City Attorney Ben Bollinger
Speaking of spring break, thousands of young men and women are flocking to Florida and other sunny climes, where some will take drugs and drink to excess. Allison Gilman, who practices in south Florida, painted a scary picture. "Ten years ago I was dealing with disorderly conduct, but now we're seeing serious drugs like Ecstasy. I'm seeing a lot more sexual cases and more serious charges." But attorney Ben Bollinger gave a far different report from northern Florida. "Things are getting better. We don't have nearly as many drug cases and very few DUI's. Most of what we're getting are disorderly conduct and battery cases." The Factor mentioned that Thursday's program will feature some college students who are currently enjoying spring break.

Many of you wrote about Bill's verbal showdown with Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson, who is calling for President Bush's impeachment. Some excerpts:
Joe Winrow, West Jordan, UT: "Rocky Anderson is right on! You are extremely rude to those who reveal Bush to be the criminal he is, Bill."
Dave Thackeray, Salt Lake City, UT: "Bill, you were too civil with Anderson. You told the truth, his ideas are kooky."
Scott Anderson, Australia: "Wow what a contrast in styles. The Mayor smiling and engaging, O'Reilly snarling and insulting."
Sgt. Shane Puffer, Ft. Campbell, KY: "O'Reilly, after that segment I researched impeachment. You are right and the mayor is wrong. There has to be a violation of law or of the Constitution."
Mille Anderson, Ogden, UT: "Bill, hurrah for exposing Rocky Anderson. He is an embarrassment to Utah." |
