Talking Points Memo & Top Story
What's the matter with Kansas?
Guest: Representative Ben Hodge

"No matter what you think about the abortion issue, you should be very disturbed by what continues to happen in Kansas. Dr. George Tiller, known as 'Tiller the Baby Killer' is performing late-term abortions without defining the specific medical reasons why. Let's be more blunt: Tiller is executing fetuses in his Wichita clinic for $5,000, and records show he'll do it for vague medical reasons. Some Kansas politicians want to stop the madness, but Governor Kathleen Sebelius is protecting Tiller. Citing privacy, the governor vetoed a bill that would have forced Tiller to provide a specific medical reason for destroying a viable fetus. Tiller has killed thousands of late-term fetuses without explanation, and Governor Sebelius is allowing him to continue the slaughter. How the governor sleeps at night is beyond me. Once again, this isn't about a woman's right to choose; this is about late-term abortions for just about any reason. Dr. Tiller has blood on his hands, and so does Governor Sebelius. She is not fit to serve; nor is any Kansas politician who supports Tiller's business of destruction. I wouldn't want to be these people if there is a judgment day."

The Factor was joined by Kansas State Representative Ben Hodge, who complained that his state has become a leading provider of late-term abortions. "Many people aren't aware that late term abortions are legal, and we in Kansas are a central location. Most of the late term abortions are performed on women from other states." Hodge also accused Governor Sebelius of using the issue for political gain. "The governor has a lot riding on this. She'd like to be either a vice presidential candidate or a cabinet member, or she'll run for the Senate in 2010." The Factor reported that abortionist Tiller has given campaign contributions to Governor Sebelius since 1994. "Kansas is a great state, but this is a disgrace upon everyone who lives there. I can not believe that in a state like Kansas that politicians in both parties allow this doctor to kill these late-term fetuses without any specific medical reason."

Mother kills daughters by hanging
Guest: Attorney Nicole DeBorde

25-year old Texas mother Gilberta Estrada killed three of her four daughters, then took her own life. Lawyer Nicole DeBorde reported that Estrada, like others who have killed their children, was in desperate need of psychiatric help. "The only common thread that runs through these cases is some form of mental illness. Sometimes these folks have a lengthy history of treatment and diagnosis, and people around them know something is not quite right. There has to be better access to mental health care." The Factor argued that incidents like this are nearly impossible to prevent. "She had a chaotic life - four babies, no husband. But in a society that allows people free range, even if they're a little demented, I don't know if there is any solution to this kind of thing. You can't lock people up based on suspicion of their being nuts."

Unresolved Problems Segment
Immigration proposal dividing Americans
Guest: Senator John McCain

Presidential candidate Senator John McCain entered the No Spin Zone to defend the proposed immigration bill that is being widely denounced. The Factor asked McCain about accusations that the bill provides "amnesty" to lawbreakers. "This will include fines," McCain responded. "We're doing everything that I can think of to make sure that illegal behavior is punished. To call this 'amnesty' is a stretch." McCain also insisted that the bill will tighten border security. "Nothing will happen until Homeland Security certifies that we have taken the necessary action to secure our southern border. There will be automatic jail for those who cross our borders illegally." The Factor reminded McCain that some on the left say the bill is too harsh on illegals. "The New York Times wants open borders, they want all the 12-million people who will be legalized to bring in their extended families. They want to break down the white, Christian male power structure, and they want to bring in millions of foreign nationals."

Factor Follow Up Segment
Harvey Levin on Paris and Rosie
Guest: Harvey Levin, TMZ.com

Paris is headed for jail, Rosie is out at "The View," and entertainment journalist Harvey Levin provided inside information on both stories. First, Levin suggested that ABC is genuinely upset at losing O'Donnell. "A lot of people are angry at Rosie O'Donnell, but above everything else ABC wants ratings. I don't think any network is charitable enough to turn away from ratings." Levin also reported that Hilton will not be treated like just another inmate. "She is Paris Hilton, a big target. So they've already selected her cellmate, and they wanted someone who will not start taking pictures and selling them to the tabloids." Finally, Levin suggested that Alec Baldwin would be an ideal replacement for Rosie O'Donnell, but The Factor quipped that "there is not enough hair mousse in the world" to get Baldwin to do a five-day-a-week program.

Miller Time Segment
Dennis Miller on the news
The Factor was next joined by Dennis Miller, who will apparently not be voting for John Edwards. "To me," Miller said, "this guy is just an overly coiffed 'pillar of dim.' His house looks like the mother ship in 'Close Encounters.' You can't put the rib kick in on John Edwards enough for me, because that is an empty vessel, a complete phony." Miller also opined on the "counselors" who advised Boulder High School students to freely enjoy sex and drugs. "If I was a parent there, I'd walk to school and pop somebody in the snout. I don't care if it's Boulder and everyone is an aging hipster there, these are kids and they don't know better. Enough's enough!"

What is Rosie's body language saying?
Guest: Body language expert Tonya Reiman

Body language expert Tonya Reiman began her segment by analyzing the Miss Universe pageant, where Miss USA Rachel Smith was roundly booed by the Mexican crowd. "She did really well," Reiman reported, "and I noticed that she grabbed one finger with the other hand, which is what we do as children with our parents. It's a self-nurturing gesture, very childlike. She was a little uncomfortable, but still had that magnificent smile." Reiman also trained her sights on Rosie O'Donnell, who spoke on her blog about civilian deaths in Iraq. "She's truly passionate about what she's saying," Reiman declared. "I see some anger, some contempt, but what I see mostly is sadness that her message isn't coming across the way she wants it to come across." The Factor concurred about O'Donnell's demeanor. "I agree that there is sadness in her face. I don't think she's happy with herself or anything else."

Viewers sound off
Some of you wrote about The Factor's characterization of John Edwards as a "phony." Some excerpts:

Sal Pitello, Brooklyn, NY: "You owe Edwards an apology, Bill. You did a hatchet job on him."

Jennifer Barker, Durham, NC: "Thanks, Bill, for exposing Edwards. As an attorney here, I can tell you he did little to help the poor in North Carolina."

Other viewers opined on the Boulder High School assembly, where students were encouraged to engage in sex and recreational drug use.

John Glidden, Boulder, CO: "Bill, unfortunately, you're right. The people living here want a permissive and progressive culture that is dangerous in my opinion."

Louise Benson, Broomfield, CO: "Bill, many parents here are outraged at what is happening in Boulder but we can't get heard because the media is so liberal."
