Talking Points Memo
The comeback of Rev. Jeremiah Wright... again
"The nation's most controversial cleric says he's misunderstood and the victim of bad people like me. Speaking to far-left PBS guy Bill Moyers, Reverend Jeremiah Wright put forth his case, and Moyers apparently was in awe. Basically, Rev. Wright says we have it all wrong, calling the coverage 'wrong and unfair.' But what was unfair? The Factor has analyzed his speeches, and here's what he says: The U.S. government is racist and murders people all over the world; the U.S. government introduced the AIDS virus to kill black people; the U.S. government actively imports drugs to imprison black men; the US government is the moral equivalent of Al Qaeda. Despite all that hard evidence, Wright is running around saying he's being treated unfairly, and people like Moyers are buying it. There's no question Wright continues to hurt Barack Obama with all this. The regular folks are not buying Wright's excuses or alleged victimhood, and Senator Obama needs some of those folks to vote him into the Oval Office. Wright has had far too much presence in this presidential race - it's time for him to finish building his multi-million dollar house and zip it. Hey, pastor, do it for Obama."

Newt Gingrich on the news
The Factor was joined by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who assessed Reverend Wright's impact on Barack Obama's candidacy. "Senator Obama should beg him to go away," Gingrich said. "Every time Reverend Wright shows up he reminds most Americans how much they deeply dislike some of his statements. Bill Moyers is a hard-left sympathizer for anybody who dislikes America, and this interview was pathetic." Gingrich also suggested that Hillary Clinton's hopes are still alive. "If she ends up winning in Indiana, this is a wide-open race. Senator Obama is gradually decaying, and a lot of Democratic delegates have to worry whether he's in the McGovern-Dukakis-Mondale tradition." But The Factor contended that Clinton's chances are slim. "I don't see how the Democratic Party could deny Obama unless he blows up. I think that's what the Clintons are hoping for, that more stuff comes out."

Returning for a second segment, Newt Gingrich explained his collaboration with Nancy Pelosi in a pro-environmental advocacy ad. "She is a very tough, very professional and very wealthy woman who has worked very hard. She is about 70 miles to the left of me, but I respect that she managed to get to be Speaker of the House. I believe conservatives have to get in the habit of being on the same stage and debating the right things to do about the environment." The Factor agreed that Gingrich's unlikely alliance served a good cause. "We have to engage the issue of the environment - it's an important issue and everyone wants a cleaner planet."

Fridays with Geraldo Segment
Wesley Snipes sentenced to jail for tax evasion
Geraldo Rivera entered the No Spin Zone and denounced the three-year prison sentence given to tax cheat Wesley Snipes. "The sentence is outrageous," Rivera pronounced, "and will be overturned. The federal guidance on a misdemeanor is probation and this is preposterous. Wesley Snipes was taunting the IRS, and you never taunt the IRS." Rivera also remarked on the fatal shark attack in Southern California. "In recent years there has been an increase in the seal and sea lion populations, and that is what the sharks feed on. That's one of the ironies of environmental protection - as the food chain gets fattened up, the sharks prey. I've seen sharks in a feeding frenzy and they are the scariest creatures on Earth."

New kids' book explains plastic surgery
In their ongoing battle of the sexes, Margaret Hoover and Marc Rudov debated the merits of a new children's book that tells tots about cosmetic surgery. "The book is pretty reasonable," Hoover said. "You sit down with your kids and read it before the surgery, and the kid realizes that mom is going to be okay. But the problem with our culture is that 40-year old moms feel they need to get a nose job and a boob job and a tummy tuck. Wouldn't it be great if we lived in a culture where there was a concept of aging gracefully?" Rudov condemned the book and its message. "This is a sad and pathetic statement about our superficial culture, especially the way women behave. A plasticized woman reminds me of a termite-infested house with fresh paint and new shutters. Little girls are growing up thinking that plastic surgery is a natural part of life." The Factor came down as squarely pro-choice on cosmetic surgery. "I would never do it, but I don't think there's anything wrong with improving yourself. And if you have plastic surgery, you have to understand that it will have an impact on your children."

Pro-life group stings Planned Parenthood
Radio host Laura Ingraham looked back on the past week, beginning with the ongoing Clinton-Obama duel: "Hillary Clinton managed to win just about every major demographic group in Pennsylvania aside from the 'Whole Foods Democrats.' Right now you're seeing some fear on the part of the superdelegates, but a lot of people are afraid of what would happen if Obama doesn't get the nomination." On another issue, Ingraham reported that a pro-life group has been running a sting on Planned Parenthood by posing as potential donors who want their contributions earmarked to abort more black babies. "A number of Planned Parenthood offices," Ingraham said, "are so interested in getting the money that they completely overlook the fact that the person donating the money clearly has racist intentions. Planned Parenthood gets $300 million dollars from taxpayers, and in the eyes of many African Americans, there's a mass slaughter going on in the United States." The Factor reminded Ingraham that Planned Parenthood bosses weren't involved. "Let's be fair - some idiot who answers the phone at Fox News may something stupid, and does that reflect on me? No."

American TV icons Johnny Carson & Ed McMahon
Why did Johnny Carson and sidekick Ed McMahon dominate the late-night television landscape for so many years? The Factor recently posed that question to McMahon himself. "We liked each other from the first day," McMahon said. "I loved being a second banana, I thought that was a great place to be. And he was a completely different kind of person than you would find anywhere else in this business." The Factor praised Carson and McMahon as a late-night team that will never be matched. "You guys walked the high wire every night, and you had to be thinking all the time and following his train of thought. I think some people underestimated your talent."

Factor Mail
Viewers sound off
A sampling of your e-mails:

Mike Lee, Pittsfield, MA: "I think William Ayers and Rev. Wright hate the government and its policies, not America itself."

Patricia Michalek, West Bloomfield, MI: "Mr. O'Reilly, you said Senator Obama was young and might not have known about the radicalism of Ayers. Do you think a graduate of Columbia and Harvard is dumb?"

Dave Elliott, Pace, FL: "Bill, you were correct when you said Obama was young when he met Ayers. And he's still young. He's too inexperienced."

David Widdoes, Haymarket, VA: "Bill, Dr. Dyson said there was no racial component in the fact that 97% of black men in Pennsylvania voted for Senator Obama. I don't believe it."
