The Factor began with the carnage at Fort Hood, Texas, where Major Malik Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist and a Muslim, shot more than 40 people, 13 of whom died. Fox News Pentagon correspondent Steve Centanni reported the latest on Major Hasan. "He is a psychologist," Centanni said, "who was helping other soldiers who had come back from Iraq and Afghanistan. He was about to go overseas and he didn't want to be deployed. According to Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Hasan targeted certain people that he knows and opened fire with two handguns." Centanni added that everyone in the U.S. military is in shock. "This is a tragedy for the Army, which is one big family. Nothing like this has ever happened on a U.S. base before."
"Thousands of folks showed up Thursday for an anti-health care reform rally at the Capitol. Their message was very clear when they chanted 'kill the bill.' The House is expected to vote on the massive 2,000-page bill shortly, and today the AARP actually endorsed it. I think that's a mistake as the bill would cut Medicare payments to doctors, so fewer doctors would see Medicare patients, meaning many senior citizens would have to wait longer for medical treatment. A few cynics are saying the AARP endorsed the bill because it markets private health insurance that would help fill the Medicare gaps. The bottom line: Obama-care has split the nation and at this point anything could happen. The president's prestige is on the line with this health care bill."
At least seven black Congressmen, including alleged tax cheat Charles Rangel, are under investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The Factor asked Rev. Al Sharpton whether there is a racial aspect to the investigations. "We haven't seen anyone proven to be guilty of anything," Sharpton pointed out. "I don't think there's a conspiracy of 'let's go get blacks,' but it's very interesting that the only active cases are black. I think this is being driven by outside 'watchdog' groups - some are politically motivated and some could even be racially motivated." The Factor reminded Sharpton that the House is dominated by liberal Democrats: "The Ethics Committee has bent over backwards for Charles Rangel, whose investigation has been going on for more than a year. Perception is reality, and the perception is that 15% of African American members of Congress are being looked at for wrongdoing."
Kentucky will have a "Christmas tree" at the state capitol after all; Governor Steve Beshear had previously dubbed it a "holiday tree." Culture Warrior Gretchen Carlson applauded Kentuckians who inundated the governor with calls and e-mails. "Apparently calls from hordes of constituents changed his mind," Carlson said. "This is emblematic of what was going on this summer at the tea parties - Americans are going to stand up and be heard." Margaret Hoover contended that each state should be free to celebrate holidays as it sees fit. "Leave it to the states to figure out what is right for them. The bottom line is that America is a pluralistic country - we are multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-theistic, and in order to live together we have to get along." But The Factor disputed Hoover's assertion: "Don't tell me about 'pluralistic' nonsense. This is the tyranny of the minority. Polls say 70% of Americans are fed up with this nonsense and want traditional Christmas to be kept that way."
Despite Democratic defeats in New Jersey and Virginia Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared victory for her party. FNC's Alan Colmes explained why Pelosi's assessment is on the mark. "In New York's 23rd Congressional District," Colmes said, "nobody expected there would be a Democratic victory. All the national crazies on the right injected themselves into that race and they lost. And a majority in New Jersey and Virginia said this election had nothing to do with Obama." But Fox News contributor Monica Crowley placed the onus squarely on President Obama. "People were voting their economic discontent and the president is primarily responsible. The president gets credit when the economy is good and blame when it's bad." Crowley also denounced President Obama for skipping the celebration marking twenty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. "This president," Crowley opined, "seems very reluctant to stand up for the values on which America is based. The fall of the Berlin Wall was one of the greatest human triumphs of freedom over tyranny, but he says he's too busy to go to Berlin."
Vermont has consistently refused to pass a form of Jessica's Law, which would mandate tough sentences for child molesters. The Factor recapped some of the more egregious cases in Vermont, where predators have received little or no jail time, then scrutinized the state with child advocate Wendy Murphy. "All the branches of government responsible for protecting the people," Murphy said, "are run by myopic ideologues. They march like lemmings and nobody is willing to stand up and say we can't keep doing this." The Factor urged Green Mountain State citizens to reclaim their government and protect their children: "Vermont remains the most lenient place in the nation for child predators, and the predators know it."
Baseball season is over and the New York Yankees are World Series champions for the 27th time. The Factor's Check: "Congratulations to the Yankees, who defeated the scrappy Philadelphia Phillies. It was a great series and we congratulate both teams." A new Internet video features young children singing a song with anti-Obama lyrics. The Factor's Check: "Let's knock it off with the kids, all right? Let kids be kids." Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, a convicted child rapist will be beheaded, then crucified. The Factor's Check: "There is no truth to the rumor that Vermont officials will be there to observe."
Thursday's Patriot: George Lutz, father of a fallen soldier, who has established the "Honor and Remember" charity to commemorate military personnel who have died in service. And the Pinhead: Actor Jeremy Piven, who stopped drinking soy milk because it supposedly caused him to "grow breasts."
David Sullivan, Farmingdale, ME: "Mr. O'Reilly, I was shocked that you and Dennis Miller do not think gay marriage really matters. You are a little light on the bold about this."
Coy Cassaway, South Fork, CO: "O'Reilly, you and Miller disappoint me. You can't pick and choose what you agree with in the Bible."
Susan Durovey-Turley, Shamrock Lakes, IN: "Miller is right about Nancy Pelosi. I've noticed that she seems very robotic at times."
Priscilla Lockney, Lancaster, MA: "Bill, you and Miller made a blunder. The term is not 'midget,' but 'little people.'"
Gary Cheezig, Edina, MN: "Mr. O'Reilly, Whoopi dissed you when she called you 'baby.'" |
