Talking Points Memo & Top Story
Memorial service for slain held at Fort Hood
"Today the memorial service was held for the twelve soldiers and one civilian murdered by Major Malik Nidal Hasan, who remains in the hospital. President Obama said this: 'No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts, no just and loving God looks upon them with favor.' That was well said. The assassin was known to the Army as a terrorist sympathizer, so an investigation will take place to find out why the man was not discharged. Apparently Hasan had emailed a recruiter for Al Qaeda in Yemen as many as twenty times. For some reason the media continues to have trouble with the Muslim terror angle to this story, but we've reported the story straight - Hasan is a Muslim terrorist who killed out of blind hatred. We do, however, continue to believe that most Muslims are good people and must be protected, but not to a ridiculous degree. Muslims are the source of much terrorism on this planet, there's no question about it. So when an American Muslim begins sympathizing with jihad, action must be taken. Let's stop the nonsense! People are dying."

The Factor was joined by Fox News analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, who protested President Obama's characterization of the killings. "The president delivered his remarks well," Peters said, "but it offended me when he called the act 'hard to comprehend.' No, it wasn't hard to comprehend - it was the act of an Islamist terrorist who gunned down 54 people because he believed he was doing the will of Allah in accordance with the Koran. Where are the Southern Baptist suicide bombers? Where are the Methodist marketplace massacre types? It's clear that the problem is Islam. What evidence does it take for our president to admit that this was an act of terrorism?" Playing devil's advocate, The Factor reminded Peters that "Barack Obama wants to win hearts and minds in the Muslim world, so he goes out of his way to avoid the Muslim terrorist label.?
Barack and a Hard Place Segment
How has Obama handled the Fort Hood massacre?
Monica Crowley and Alan Colmes evaluated President Obama's refusal to label the Fort Hood carnage "terrorism." "We don't know that it's terrorism," Colmes maintained. "Why do we want to jump to define it as terror? Let's get all the facts first. Conservatives are shamelessly using a national tragedy to attack a president who did most things correctly here." But Crowley ridiculed President Obama's initial reaction. "The day of the shooting he stepped to the podium and gave two minutes of 'shout outs' to all of his buddies in the front row. Secondly, he keeps referring to this as a 'crime,' but this is an act of war. Al Qaeda declared war against the United States and Hasan had contact with a top Al Qaeda guy in Yemen. Let's face it, he is a jihadi." The Factor agreed that Major Hasan is a terrorist: "I define it as terror because there was no other reason to kill these people other than rank hatred driven by religion and ideology.?
Personal Story Segment
Coulter: Linking Tiller to Fort Hood
Conservative author Ann Coulter compared the reactions to Major Hasan's rampage with those that followed the murder of Kansas abortionist George Tiller. "Immediately after Tiller's death," Coulter recalled, "Obama said he was 'shocked and outraged by the murder of George Tiller.' But when a crazed Muslim shoots up an Army base, he leaps up and says 'don't jump to any conclusions.'" Coulter complained that Muslims are treated with kid gloves by the media and politicians. "To get ahead in America, you have to be a victim, and after 9/11 Muslims became the number one preeminent victims. That's why the Army did not react to this guy. He once said at a conference that infidels have to be beheaded and have oil poured down their throats." The Factor denounced media outlets that downplay Hasan's jihadist leanings. "I have no animus toward Muslims, I want American Muslims to have a happy life. However, I'm going to call the guy what he is, a Muslim terrorist who killed people because of jihad.?
Stossel Matters Segment
California and New York: Gross financial incompetence?
Despite their confiscatory tax burdens, California and New York are nearly broke. The Factor was joined by Fox News anchor John Stossel, who railed against high state taxes that are often hidden in the cost of everyday items. "In New York we have a gas tax of 61 cents on every gallon," Stossel reported, "and a $4.25 tax on a pack of cigarettes. In Washington State hard liquor is taxed at $26.45 per gallon, and Illinois has a 6.25% tax on junk food. I hope people get mad, but they just take it." The Factor argued that taxpayers are nearing a tipping point: "If Nancy Pelosi's health care bill goes through, you'll be paying 45% of your money to the government. This is Fidel Castro stuff, and I think there's going to be a tax revolt in America before Obama finishes.?
Miller Time Segment
Dennis Miller on Barney Frank
The Factor invited Dennis Miller to weigh in on the Fort Hood situation and Islamic terror. "This is the worst I've ever felt about this," Miller said. "For the first time I can see how good can lose to evil if we're not even going to concede who the enemy is when we have a guy shouting 'Allahu Akbar.' We know what that means and we better wise up or we're going to lose this thing. We need an Islamic 'Serpico' who will rat out the bad guys and tell us who they are." Miller also commented on California's decision to withhold an extra 10% of take home pay from everyone in the state. "I agree with you that we're reaching a point where they're going to push the taxpayers' buttons. They're sitting on a boiling insurrection and I think there's a new French Revolution coming, but they're going to use laser guillotines.?

Great American News Quiz
With Martha MacCallum taking the night off, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner challenged Steve Doocy in the Great American News Quiz. Among the questions: "The 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, captured which high profile target?" ... "Who was the only bachelor elected President of the United States?" ... "In which city was Michael Jackson scheduled to perform a series of concerts during the summer of 2009?" The rookie Faulkner jumped out to an early lead, but Doocy was cool under fire and stormed back to a one-point victory. The entire GANQ can be found here on BillOreilly.com under 'Fun Stuff.?
