Talking Points Memo
Adventures on the Far Left
"The Democratic Party is split between moderates and far-left folks, but it is the ideological zealots that get most of the attention. This week, Betsy DeVos was confirmed as Education Secretary. But before that vote took place, liberal bomb thrower Al Franken attacked Ms. DeVos in the Senate, calling her testimony 'one of the most embarrassing performances by a nominee in the history of the United States Senate.' Franken does not like Betsy DeVos because she is a champion of school choice and has devoted much of her life to trying to bring quality education to poor children trapped in bad inner-city schools. You would think that an uber-liberal like Franken would approve of trying to help poor kids. But he does not. Why? Because by offering school vouchers and encouraging charter schools, Ms. DeVos is challenging the powerful teachers' unions. Those unions and their associates have donated more than $150,000 to Al Franken campaigns. How enlightening. It is beyond question that poor American children, often minorities, are not getting the same quality of education that middle class and wealthy children are getting. Why not give poor parents subsidies to choose better schools for their kids? How long are we going to put up with discrimination against the poor? How long, Al? In another far-left adventure, Senator Elizabeth Warren, as close to a socialist as you can be, attacked Senator Jeff Sessions in the hearings over whether Mr. Sessions should become attorney general. You can decide whether the far left is really looking out for the country by objecting to school choice and trying to smear a man like Sessions. But what is crystal clear is the huge divide between the attitudes of the far left and moderates in the Democratic Party, not to mention Republicans, where there is no common ground at all. Talking Points believes honest debate is necessary. But part of that equation is letting you know what's really going on behind the scenes."

Geraldo Rivera and Eric Bolling opined on the Memo and the fights in the Senate. "These are two sides that really hate each other," Rivera began. "The left is energized and the Frankens and the Warrens have shown they have the spirit to fight, while the leaders of the Democratic Party have actually wimped out. I think the leftists will energize the party so that it might recover in time for the midterm elections." But Bolling theorized that Republicans are intentionally building up far-left Senator Elizabeth Warren. "The Democrats can put up a big fight and get on TV, but I think this is a brilliant strategy for the GOP. Mitch McConnell gave Elizabeth Warren all this political credibility and she may run against Trump. This is a brilliant long-run strategy."
Impact Segment
Division in the Senate over Jeff Sessions
Senator Jeff Sessions was confirmed as Attorney General Wednesday evening, but he received just one vote from a Democrat, namely Joe Manchin of West Virginia. The Factor examined the partisan chasm with Republican Senator Ben Sasse. "The Senate has fancied itself as 'the greatest deliberative body in the world' for 240 years," Sasse said, "but for quite a long time it has not been that. That doesn't mean we should abandon the idea, it means we should go back to debating the biggest problems facing America. Right now the Senate is not a very serious place and it needs to be serious again." Sasse, a vociferous foe of Donald Trump during the primaries, complimented the president's cabinet picks, saying, "He has named a lot of really, really strong folks and his Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch is a home run."
Factor Followup
Muslim Immigration in Europe
A new survey shows that a majority of Europeans want a total halt to immigration from Muslim nations. Conservative foreign policy analyst Nile Gardiner elaborated on the study. "This is a very powerful poll," he declared, "from Britain's most prestigious think tank. It's one of the most important surveys we've seen in recent years, and it reflects the tremendous fear and anxiety in Europe over the influx of refugees. The wave of Islamist terror attacks across Europe have had a huge impact and there is a real sense of foreboding." The Factor concluded, "This is bad news for the Angela Merkel set and liberal politicians."
Lou's The Boss
Biggest Threats to America
The Factor challenged Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs to identify the single greatest threat facing the United States today. "The most immediate threat," Dobbs replied, "is the left wing in this country, the liberals who are pervasive throughout our society. There is a large movement in academia and business and the media and public education that has created a great animus with the tactics they are employing. They mean to destroy this government that is under the control of President Trump." The Factor singled out a related threat. "My pick is higher education. No longer are colleges teaching the Socratic Method where you teach young adults to be skeptical and to seek truth. Now it's indoctrination and propaganda at about 75% of the major universities, which are turning out these zealots who will not even debate. If you disagree with them, you are evil and a racist and a bigot!"
Miller Time
Miller on the Tom Brady Jersey Mystery
Honorary detective Dennis Miller scrutinized the nefarious case of the purloined Tom Brady game jersey. "Either Bernie Sanders took it," he theorized, "or Roger Goodell took it. I think Commissioner Goodell has an unrequited man-crush on Tom Brady and you always hurt the one you love. I don't think Goodell has ever recovered from Brady's marriage to Giselle, he was crushed." Miller turned to Barack Obama's kite surfing vacation with billionaire Richard Branson. "John Kerry proved this is a great sport for lightweights, you don't even have to have a wind to get up. One thing Obama hasn't been doing is going back to Chicago because it's too dangerous back there! He should actually host The Apprentice because Arnold isn't doing well."
Did You See That?
Stop & Frisk Ending
While New York cops have greatly curtailed 'stop and frisk,' that tactic apparently helped nab a man who is suspected of murdering a female jogger. Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum entered the No Spin Zone with the details. "Detectives had DNA from the victim's body," she reported, "but they couldn't find any suspect from prior criminal records. But then they went to the 'stop and frisk' files and found a guy who had been stopped a few times for loitering and public urination. This man, 20-year-old Chanel Lewis, has been arrested, which would not have happened without the stop and frisk."

Viewers Sound Off
James Murphy, Drexel Hill, PA: "Mr. O, the negative press on President Trump is very disrespectful. Can a former governor really say he wants to smash the president's face? Can rappers verbally assault him? Where does it end?"

John Adivari, Kennesaw, GA: "In my opinion President Bush the young allowing the press to vilify him without much response led to the election of Barack Obama."

John Feehan, West Hartford, CT: "For me, it is energizing to see the president on the battlefield - hitting back."

Bob Lebenson, Las Vegas, NV: "O'Reilly, you have become just plain boring!"
