IG Report Released!

The Inspector General of the Department of Justice, Michael Horowitz, released a long-awaited 568-page report Thursday afternoon on his investigation into the FBI and DOJ handling of the probe into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server and its actions during the 2016 presidential race. Here are the highlights.

Texts reveal disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok told Lisa Page ‘we’ll stop’ Trump

In the report, Inspector General Michael Horowitz revealed the text message exchange between FBI agent, Peter Strzok, and FBI lawyer Lisa Page. Previous texts exchanged by Strzok and Page had already landed the pair in hot water. The newly revealed messages, some of the 40,000 that the inspector general reviewed in total, appear to be the most explicit texts so far made public.

In an August 2016 exchange Lisa Page wrote to Strzok, “[Trump’s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!”

Peter Strzok responded saying, “No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it.”

That is the smoking gun that comes out of Horowitz’s report. This is definitive proof that the "deep state" not only didn't want Trump to win the presidential election, but was actively working to keep him from the White House.

During Thursday's press briefing, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, "The President was briefed on the IG report earlier today and it reaffirmed the president's suspicions about Comey's conduct and the political bias among some of the members of the FBI."

James Comey’s Involvement

Former FBI Director James Comey broke FBI and Justice Department protocol in his handling of the 2016 investigation of Hillary Clinton's email scandal, but Comey was not motivated by political bias when he cleared Clinton of criminal wrongdoing, according to the IG report.

"While we did not find that these decisions were the result of political bias on Comey’s part, we nevertheless concluded that by departing so clearly and dramatically from FBI and department norms, the decisions negatively impacted the perception of the FBI and the department as fair administrators of justice," Inspector General Michael Horowitiz concluded in the report.

Comey responded swiftly Thursday afternoon once the report was released. "The conclusions are reasonable, even though I disagree with some," the former FBI director wrote on Twitter. "People of good faith can see an unprecedented situation differently."

Gowdy: ‘I’m Alarmed, Angered … This Is Not the FBI Our Country Needs’

Commenting on the Inspector General’s report, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said “I am alarmed, angered, and deeply disappointed by the Inspector General’s finding of numerous failures by DOJ and FBI in investigating potential Espionage Act violations by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.” Gowdy went on to say, “This is not the FBI I know. This is not the FBI our country needs. This is not the FBI citizens and suspects alike deserve.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray’s Statement on Release of Inspector General’s Report

Thursday evening, FBI Director Christopher Wray released a statement commenting on the inspector general’s report. Wray said, “I take this report very seriously, and we accept its findings and recommendations. It’s also important to note what the inspector general did not find. The report did not find any evidence of political bias or improper consideration actually impacting the investigation under review. But the report does identify errors of judgment, violations of or disregard for policy, and decisions that, at the very least, in hindsight, were not the best choices…First: We’re going to hold employees accountable for any potential misconduct…Second: We’re going to make sure that every FBI employee understands the lessons of this report…Third: We’re going to make sure we have the policies, procedures, and training needed for everyone to understand and remember what’s expected of us.”

New York Files Suit Against President Trump, Alleging His Charity Engaged In ‘Illegal Conduct’

Democratic Attorney General Barbara Underwood is suing to dissolve The Donald J. Trump Foundation and is seeking $2.8 million in restitution. Underwood alleges "a pattern of persistent illegal conduct" at the Donald J. Trump Foundation for more than a decade. The lawsuit was filed against President Donald Trump and three of his adult children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump.

The lawsuit says the foundation illegally helped support Trump’s presidential campaign by raising money at a nationally televised fundraiser in January 2016, then allowing campaign staffers to dictate how the money was spent in grants. The suit said at least five grants of $100,000 apiece were awarded by the foundation to groups in Iowa just days before the Feb. 1, 2016, presidential caucuses there.

The lawsuit also states that Trump used the foundation to cover legal fees and to promote his properties and businesses.

Underwood also sent referral letters Thursday to the Internal Revenue Service and Federal Election Commission raising possible federal law violations.

The New York AG says that the Foundation "was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality."

Trump responded on twitter saying, "The sleazy New York Democrats, and their now disgraced (and run out of town) A.G. Eric Schneiderman, are doing everything they can to sue me on a foundation that took in $18,800,000 and gave out to charity more money than it took in, $19,200,000. I won’t settle this case! ... Schneiderman, who ran the Clinton campaign in New York, never had the guts to bring this ridiculous case, which lingered in their office for almost 2 years. Now he resigned his office in disgrace, and his disciples brought it when we would not settle."

Trump Foundation Response:

"This is politics at its very worst. The Foundation has donated over $19 million to worthy charitable causes -- more than it even received. The President himself -- or through his companies - has contributed more than $8 million. The reason the Foundation was able to donate more than it took in is because it had little to no expenses. This is unheard of for a charitable foundation. The Foundation currently has $1.7 million remaining which the NYAG has been holding hostage for political gain. This is unconscionable -- particularly because the Foundation previously announced its intention to dissolve more than a year and a half ago. The prior NYAG, who was recently forced to resign from office in disgrace, made it his stated mission to use this matter to not only advance his own political goals, but also for his own political fundraising. The acting NYAG's recent statement that battling the White House is 'the most important work (she) have ever done' shows that such political attacks will continue unabated."

Underwood's predecessor, Democrat Eric Schneiderman, began investigating the foundation in 2016 following Washington Post reports that foundation spending personally benefited the presidential candidate. The Trump campaign, at the time, said the foundation intended to cooperate with the investigation.
