Police in Portland, Oregon, say they made no arrests after a violent clash between rivaling protest factions in the city’s downtown area. The Saturday night incident is the latest brawl in an ongoing feud between the right-wing group Patriot Prayer and the left-wing Antifa group. Protesters allegedly used “bear spray, bare fists and batons” to attack each other outside a bar for more than a minute before riot police showed up. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler came under fire over a viral video showing Antifa protesters blocking traffic and harassing drivers, but he says he supports the decision by police to watch from a distance without getting involved. “I was appalled by what I saw in the video, but I support the Portland Police Bureau’s decision not to intervene,” he said at a press conference. “This whole incident will be investigated.” Is that the stance you would want your mayor and police force to take?
