Hillary Clinton for President
"Yesterday Mrs. Clinton told the world what the world already knew. She is running for president. It will be interesting to see if she embraces the economic policies of President Obama. After more than six years, income for working Americans is down about $1,700 per capita. Explaining that is just one of the problems Mrs. Clinton will have. The other problem is her legacy. She served in the Senate for eight years, and in that time she worked with Republicans on a number of issues. She succeeded in getting more money for vets and did some good things in education. But on the whole, Hillary Clinton was not out front on any game-changing legislation. She did, however, vote for the Iraq War and defended it. She also criticized President Bush for being too soft on border security. Isn't that interesting? Then Hillary Clinton became secretary of state and her resume became more intense. Mrs. Clinton and President Obama engineered few foreign policy successes. She led the movement to remove Qaddafi in Libya and then dodged and weaved about the assassination of American ambassador Chris Stevens. The record shows there was poor security in Benghazi and Secretary Clinton did little about that. And then there is the war on terror, which has become a debacle. And Putin, another debacle. To be fair, Hillary Clinton should be asked questions about foreign policy so the folks can evaluate whether the mess abroad is her fault or the fault of the president. But I don't expect very many people are going to be fair to Hillary Clinton. Supporters will vote for her no matter what; her record doesn't really matter. Opposing her are some Americans who despise the Clintons and their liberal view of the world. So no matter what Mrs. Clinton accomplished, it will be derided in those precincts. In the middle are the voters who will decide the election. This country is in trouble economically and overseas. While the left will never admit that, whoever the next president is will inherit one big mess. The jihadists are threatening millions, Iran is close to having a nuclear weapon, working Americans are struggling to make money in the marketplace, and our traditional values are under siege nearly everywhere. If you are a Christian or a white man, it is open season on you. Therefore Hillary Clinton has an advantage. She can run a general campaign - the first woman in the White House and I'm going to help you by increasing the entitlement society. It will take a very articulate and tough-minded Republican to defeat her. One final thing. We at The Factor will be fair to Hillary Clinton but we are going to be tough on her, as we are on all candidates. I don't think gender matters one bit and if this war on women business is resurrected, we will have something to say about it. Also, Mrs. Clinton would be well advised to distance herself from Media Matters and the other guttersnipe organizations who use despicable, dishonest tactics to attack those with whom they disagree. If you embrace the smear merchants, Mrs. Clinton, we will have something to say about it."
Reaction to Talking Points
The Factor asked writer Mary Katharine Ham and radio talk show host Richard Fowler to opine on the Talking Points Memo and Hillary Clinton's chances. "This feels like a check-the-box kind of candidacy," Ham began. "She is the next one in line, she has served time in the positions that make her qualified, but there is not a lot to point to. I'm not sure how this is going to roll out, she's just not a natural." Fowler contended that Hillary Clinton has a solid record on which to run. "She does have some accomplishments. She got $21 billion for the World Trade Center rebuilding, she was a leader in promoting child health. I agree that she's not a typical barnburner campaigner, but she does understand where the American people are. That's why you'll see her in coffee shops and smaller places."
Iran Nuke Political Brawl
The Obama administration and the mullahs in Iran seem to have far different understandings of the "framework" worked out in Switzerland. Brit Hume analyzed the politics of the deal. "If you're a member of the Senate," he said, "it looks to a lot of them like we don't really have a deal. What the ayatollah is saying is so contradictory to what the president is saying. And even if what President Obama is saying is true, there is real reason to doubt whether it would be effective. Iran is famous for cheating." The Factor concluded, "Most people in Congress know this is not going our way and so they want oversight, which seems logical."
Baltimore Folks Weigh In
Jesse Watters headed down I-95 to Baltimore, where he asked some people to name President Obama's greatest accomplishments. A few of their replies: "Probably becoming the first African American president" ... "Having an in-shape wife, that's about it" .... "I guess we haven't heard too much about terrorism" ... "Killing Osama"... "Can I get back to you?" To be fair, though, the people in the "Crab Cake Capital of the World" were also pretty darned crabby when asked to opine on the current Republican crop of candidates.
Spring Break Crime
Some college men were caught on tape raping a young woman on a Florida beach while dozens of people stood nearby. Megyn Kelly elaborated on the horrifying crime. "Two men from Alabama who attended Troy University," she reported, "are charged with sexually assault. They're looking for a third suspect and maybe even a fourth. This was done in an open and notorious fashion on a woman who was completely incapacitated. She was either drunk or drugged, but she didn't go to the police right afterwards so they were not able to test her. The police can apparently see on the video that there were multiple men holding this woman's legs down." The Factor lamented, "We've come to a point where some Americans are so desensitized to all of this stuff, we're seeing it all the time."
Hillary's Problems
Charles Krauthammer entered the No Spin Zone with his analysis of the Clinton campaign. "I expect her to win the nomination hands-down," Dr. K predicted, "but I don't expect her to win the general election. If the Republicans can put up a dynamic candidate, she can easily be beaten. She has a glaring inauthenticity and she has been around longer than anybody in the field at a time when the country wants renewal." The Factor pointed to another dilemma Hillary Clinton faces: "She needs Barack Obama on the campaign trail, but she can't really run on his record overseas. So she has to repudiate his record, which will tee him off, or she has to embrace his record, which is chaotic."

Factor Words of the Day
Danny Holmes, Pell City, AL: "I have been a police officer for more than 25 years and am disgusted by the South Carolina police shooting. It's hard enough to maintain a rapport with the African-American community that we serve. This kind of thing breaks down solid relationships. I hope the officer is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Greg Ballard, Draper, UT: "I believe the officer should be punished, but the shooting would not have happened if the victim would have cooperated in the first place."
