Although President Trump is racking up a number of good trade deals in Asia, his detractors remain crazed about the under-construction White House ballroom.  They don’t like it even though corporate money is paying the freight.

I’m agnostic on the project.  It’s free, so if the White House benefits from an opulent space, fine.  I understand President Trump admires the grandiose.

The issue is small ball, just another reason to pound Trump.  Writing in The Washington Post, anti-Trump Guy George Will says this:  “Donald Trump, who often makes even defensible actions grating, acted on the White House with unapologetic unilateralism.”

Well, I don’t want to annoy old George, but all Presidents do that.  Harry Truman, for example, upgraded constantly as he described in 1950: “I found four chairs that Lincoln had used for his cabinet in the attic … I had them restored, put them in the Lincoln room, and will put them back when the house is restored.”

Presidents have the power to change the White House. Trump just does it bigger. What else is new?

See you this evening for the No Spin News.
