Bill & Beck React to the CNN Florida Town Hall, the Gun Debate, and More
Bill spent part of his Thursday morning hashing things out with Glenn Beck on The Blaze Radio. They began with CNN's Wednesday "town hall" on gun violence.
"I had to watch it because it's my job," Bill began, "and I didn't expect anything other than a lot of talk about controlling weapons. We got a lot of empty rhetoric, which is not to criticize the kids. Some of the kids are sincere, some are being used, and I thought it was useless to talk about things that are unrealistic."
"The far left wants to have as much control over our lives as possible," he continued, "and one way would be to disarm the people. But there's no way that is going to happen, most Americans don't want the government confiscating our weapons. CNN was using kids to spout things they don't understand."
Beck criticized the far-right smear merchants who are describing some of the students as "crisis actors," and Bill agreed.
Bill also lamented the current state of political discourse, which frequently includes more accusations than debate: "If you support Donald Trump, you're a white supremacist. If you support people being able to arm themselves, you are supporting the killer in Broward County. If you criticize LeBron James for saying President Trump doesn't care about anybody, you're a racist. It's a demonization across the board."
The duo turned to the Hollywood celebrities who are contributing millions of dollars to next month's protest against gun violence. "This is identical to the Women's March," Bill opined, "which was an anti-Trump extravaganza in which pro-life women were not allowed. This upcoming march says that anyone who believes in Second Amendment rights is a fascist and a sympathizer with mass murderers. George Soros money will be behind this and far-left money will be behind this."
Returning to the CNN town hall, Bill theorized that the network has transformed itself into a political advocacy organization: "CNN is fervently liberal, they are in business to promote left-wing causes. They've now taken the next step and are activists using their influence to change policy. One of their strategies is to destroy anyone who speaks up against that, which is why you saw the attacks on Laura Ingraham and on me. I was the only one who stuck up for Laura Ingraham and told America that she is not a racist. Even her own network didn't do that because they're afraid of being branded 'racist,' so what the far left is doing is working."
Beck then asked Bill for some specific actions he would take to reduce the incidence of school shootings. "I think there should be legislation that concentrates on harm reduction," Bill replied. "There is no reason that anyone under 21 should be allowed to buy a gun. There should also be a universal background check law. Those are harm-reduction and common sense laws that can be passed. And then the states can mandate that every school has armed guards on campus whenever the kids are there. That makes it a thousand times harder for a guy to walk in and create this kind of carnage. You'll never be able to stop all these crazy massacres, but you can at least say to the American people, we are trying!"
Bill disagreed with President Trump's suggestion that some teachers should be trained and armed: "I'm a former teacher and I had enough problems getting the urchins to pay attention, I don't want to point a Magnum at them. Teachers need to teach, armed guards need to provide security."
Beck contended that the real root of the problem is largely a spiritual one, lamenting that "there is something wrong with our society." Bill agreed, saying, "The spirit of the country is depressed and divided and this is being driven by a mass media and an Internet that are hate-filled."
Bill concluded with a salute to Rev. Billy Graham, who died this week at age 99. "Billy Graham was a great man," Bill declared, "who talked about the obliteration of spirit in America. He was always trying to lift people up, he didn't use religion as a cudgel. He basically said that if you live in a certain way you will be rewarded. His son Franklin Graham does that too, he's very on point trying to stop the mass hatred we are seeing in America."
Bill and Beck ended with a shameless promotion for their respective websites, which offer Americans an invaluable alternative to the increasingly corrupt mainstream media outlets.
