Some Democratic lawmakers in California are proposing that the entire state declare itself a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The Factor scrutinized that idea with California law professor John Eastman. "California and its cities get $330-billion a year from the federal government," Eastman said, "and all of that is at risk. One of the conditions on all of those grants is that you have to comply with federal law, and that law says no state can tell its officials to not cooperate with ICE. But some California officials have become ideologically hard-line left on this and don't want enforcement of our immigration laws." The Factor warned of a major showdown, saying, "I think the Trump administration would absolutely withhold funding, even though it would cause mass chaos."
