The Hill: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) should create a voluntary program to allow frequent flyers to provide personal information in order to avoid long airport security lines, according to a study released Wednesday by the U.S. Travel Association.
Under the trusted traveler proposal, passengers would provide fingerprints, credit information and other personal data. In exchange for doing so, they would receive an ID card they could show to bypass security lines on flights.
The Travel Association said many travelers do not take two to three trips they would ordinarily make because of security hassles at airports. That amounts to $85 billion lost in revenue and 900,000 lost in jobs, the group said.
