WLS-TV: During a debate about a new tax on sugary beverages, Republican State Senator Shane Cultra responded with the idea of taking tax deductions away from parents with obese children. In a written statement released Wednesday afternoon, Cultra says his idea was said tongue in cheek and should not be taken seriously. Health advocates agree, but say the issue of childhood obesity should be taken seriously.
