As of Tuesday, a man who harbors ultra-violent fantasies about committing murder is on the Democratic ticket in Virginia, running to be the state’s highest-ranking law enforcement officer.  But there is a death watch encircling Jay Jones and his candidacy for Attorney General.  And death is something with which Jones is quite familiar.

You’ve probably heard about his vile text messages from 2022.  Jones actually wrote that Republican Todd Gilbert should get ‘two bullets to the head’ before adding his wish that Gilbert’s two young children die in their mother’s arms.  What Jones wrote is not in dispute and is no longer breaking news, but the Democratic Party’s reaction grows more astonishing by the hour.

Jay Jones shares the ticket with Abigail Spanberger, a self-proclaimed ‘moderate’ Democrat running for governor.  She criticized Jones’s words, but has not demanded that he quit the race.  Taking forgiveness to the next level, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is urging Jones to remain on the ballot.  Thus far, not one prominent Democrat has demanded that Jones, who was previously arrested for driving 116mph, take the next exit, politically speaking.  Meanwhile, it has also been credibly reported that in 2020, Jones told a colleague that a few police officers getting killed in the line of duty may have beneficial effects.  Not surprisingly, the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police is demanding that Jones quit immediately.  As for the candidate himself, he issued a tepid apology and apologized to Gilbert, but has kept mostly under the radar, hoping all this blows over.

Until now, 36-year-old Jerrauld ‘Jay’ Jones led a charmed life.  Born into a prominent and wealthy Black family, he earned a law degree at the University of Virginia and seemed destined for big things in politics.  That was put on hold when his murderous and rage-filled text messages came to light last week.

So now what?  Will Democrats circle the wagons and protect Jones?  It seems unlikely, but don’t put it past a party that spent four years pretending Joe Biden was at the top of his game.  Among too many left-wing Democrats, power takes precedence over principle; they will force Jones out only if he becomes an anchor dragging Abigail Spanberger and other Democrats down with him.

We predict that Jay Jones will not make it through this week and that his hope to be Attorney General has, shall we say, taken a fatal bullet.  But that could certainly be wrong.  What is your prediction about the delightful and charming Mr. Jones?
