It is the age of propaganda in America with the internet being the primary spreading agent. And the deceit comes from all sides - not just the progressive left.
On Thursday, conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg said: "My former FOX colleagues, Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity and others saw and recognized at face value that that [January 6] mob was instigated by the president and motivated by the lies he had spread ..."
That is a false statement. Both Laura and Hannity emailed the Trump White House on January 6, 2021, encouraging the President to act quickly in defense of the Capitol. They did not and do not believe that he "instigated" anything. They acted out of concern for their country as well as Donald Trump's legacy, which they openly support. I know them. I know what happened.
So, Mr. Goldberg is trafficking in propaganda.
It's very sad that the truth is so hard to ascertain in this country. Because giant corporations bent on making giant profits now control the flow of information, the American people get news presentations daily that often falsify or ignore vital facts.
In short, there is an ideological script to be followed, and those working in the corporate news arena better damn well follow it.
Americans have the freedom to vote and to form opinions. But if we don't know what's true, our decisions become tainted by false beliefs.
The propaganda people know that and their job is to steer voters to a conclusion, not give them facts so they can decide for themselves.
And the propagandists are in control. It's actually horrifying when you think about it.
New column Sunday noon. Stay safe.
