Here’s what the government shutdown is all about, so please tell the callow TV pundits to shut up and listen.

 

Faced with a number of successes by the Trump administration, the Democratic Party believes it needs to “stand up” to the strongman President in a dramatic way.

 

Last time around, the Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, voted to extend government spending and took holy hell for it.   Schumer doesn’t want to repeat that.

 

The Dems believe healthcare is a weak situation for Trump and the GOP, so they have chosen that issue as their cudgel; provide more federal spending, or we will “resist” the spending resolution.

 

Republican leadership has already agreed to health care negotiations, but that’s not enough to strike a deal.  Schumer wants “guarantees” of increased spending.

 

Of course, the GOP leadership will never agree to what they call “extortion so the shutdown goes on.

 

This will get settled, but the healthcare divide will not.  Dems want the federal government to run the show like Canada. Republicans will never support that.

 

Meanwhile, hardworking Americans are caught in the middle.
