Get lost, Kamala.  Move over, Gavin.  Hit the road, Tim and Pete.  Sure, you lead the early polls, but there is a new guy who could be emerging as the front-runner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.  Senator Mark Kelly has rocketed to stardom over the past two weeks and is being hailed as a Democratic voter’s dream.  A few reasons:

- Resume.  The son of two police officers, Kelly is a former Navy pilot who flew combat missions, thus negating the accusation that Democrats are anti-cop and anti-military.  He was among the elite few selected to be an astronaut and piloted space shuttle missions.

- Family.  Sen. Kelly is, of course, married to Gabby Giffords, the former Congresswoman who was nearly killed by a would-be assassin in 2011.  Mark Kelly became a vocal advocate for gun control, an issue near and dear to most Democrats.

- Blank slate.  Kelly has never really been in charge of anything and thus has no track record.  Compare that with his prospective rivals:  Kamala Harris is an abysmal candidate, Tim Walz is a scandal-ridden buffoon, Gavin Newsom has run his state into the ground, and Josh Shapiro may be a bit too Jewish for the party’s legion of anti-Semites.

-Trump hatred.  Despising Donald Trump is a prerequisite for any Democratic candidate, and Kelly is taking a back seat to no one.  He’s constantly on CNN and MS NOW expressing his loathing of the president and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.  Kelly is on their radar ever since he urged military members to disobey illegal orders in the notorious ‘Seditious Six’ video.

- Self-promotion.  When it comes to tooting his own horn, Mark Kelly is right up there with the master himself, Donald Trump.  He uses his incessant TV appearances to boast about his military service, to solemnly display his great virtue, and to remind everyone about his wife.

- Victimhood.  In recent days, Kelly has been eagerly playing the victim, another trait that Democrat voters find irresistible.  He announces that he is the target of death threats and makes bold proclamations like this:  ‘President Trump is trying to silence me, threatening to kill me, for saying what is true.’  And this:  ‘I’ve had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit, all for my country.  I never thought I’d see a president call for my execution.’

Senator Mark Kelly is becoming the darling of many Democrats, media types, and donors, all of whom think he could be just the man to lead Democrats to the promised land in ‘28.  Kelly recently visited South Carolina and Nevada, states that carry major weight in the primaries.  Meanwhile, because some on the radical left see Kelly as a bit too moderate, he’s turning up the Trump-loathing amp to 11.

One final thing could turn Kelly into an absolutely unstoppable force.  Imagine for a moment that he is court martialed and perhaps even serves a brief stint at Leavenworth.  No other candidate could possibly match that kind of victimhood and martyrdom.  One senses that at this very moment, Senator Mark Kelly may be hoping and praying for a knock on the door from the Military Police.
