Our pal Bernie Goldberg expanded on his conversation with me a few weeks back by writing that the reason he left “Real Sports” was over something Bryant Gumbel once said. Apparently on the HBO program Mr. Gumbel insisted that “racism is everywhere.”

 

Bernie doesn’t believe that and had a pithy retort on his website: “racism can’t be everywhere because it’s not in my house.”

 

Mr. Goldberg, of course, is right. The belief that racism dominates the lives of Americans is absurd. But that’s the false narrative that the progressive left, which includes Mr. Gumbel, wants to believe.

 

There is no persuading that overstatements about racial strife are harmful to just about everyone. And if you don’t buy into the racial catastrophe, well, you’re a racist.  

 

So there.
