If you look at those opposing the wall on the southern border it is easy to figure out motivation - the more Hispanic foreign nationals who become American citizens, the better it is for the Democratic Party.

California is the best example of this. In 1970 there were less than 3 million Latinos living in the Golden State. By 2014, the number had risen to about 15 million with Latinos surpassing whites as the ethnic majority.

55 percent of Hispanics eligible to vote in California are Democrats. 17 percent are Republicans, with 24 percent registering with no party.

California, the land of Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, has become a one-party liberal state thanks to Latino voters. Democrats hope to duplicate that in other states by demanding lenient policies toward illegal entry from Mexico.

When my ancestors arrived from famine-ravaged Ireland in the 1840’s, they were quickly signed up by Democrat ward bosses in Brooklyn. And they remained Democrats as the generations unfolded. In New York, Boston and other big cities, the Dems aggressively recruited the poor and the working union people.

Today the party of entitlement is the Democrat Party. And if you are a first-generation American with little education, you are going to need some help. The Dems are more than happy to supply that help using tax payer dollars.

So that’s the root of the border controversy. It’s all about potential votes. It’s all about power.

Tonight we’ll take a hard look at the entitlement society. See you beginning at 7 eastern.
