Fully realizing I am not compatible with the "hip hop world," I ask a simple question: could you understand any of the lyrics shouted at the Super Bowl halftime show?
I couldn't. I needed subtitles. Badly.
The whole thing was strange for a guy brought up on the Four Tops. There was 50-year-old Snoop Dogg wearing electric blue pajamas waving his fingers around in some kind of strange symbol.
Then Dr. Dre doing something, I'm not sure what. Followed by Eminem, the token white rapper, in a sweatshirt and very droopy pants.
What did it all mean? I don't know. I don't believe NFL commissioner Roger Goodell knows either nor does Pepsi who sponsored the exhibition.
I was wondering what folks watching overseas think about this particular part of American culture. Do they like it? Do they know what it means?
I guess it was inclusive which is very important to the NFL but I didn't see any Hispanics or Asians.
In the end, I guess some folks liked the halftime show. Which is fine. But I'm not apologizing for preferring music that has actual melodies and lyrics that you can sing along with.
Call me crazy.
Tonight, Talking points will break down the President Biden Super Bowl interview. He should have rapped it. See you beginning at six eastern.
