Many Americans are supremely confused about the Trump tax/spend bill currently being ferociously debated in the Senate after passing in the House by one vote. One. Uno.

So here's the deal, as Joe Biden might say. About 11 percent of Americans currently live below the poverty line.  That's around 37 million people, according to the census. Most of them have TVs, smartphones, appliances, necessities.

The Trump bill will not directly elevate those folks, most of whom are receiving a variety of welfare payments.  That's because the poor don't pay income tax, so how can you cut it for them?  They do pay social security taxes if they derive any on-the-books income.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, which is often inaccurate, the Trump bill will help middle-class families, rich people, and small businesses because the current tax rate stays the same.  If the bill fails, everyone who makes money in the marketplace will pay more to the government come January 1, 2026.

That's what the Democrats want.  Higher taxes on workers and entrepreneurs, more free stuff for the poor.  That's the slouching toward socialism model.

Americans should understand that capitalism rewards the industrious.  Yes, our system provides safety nets to those who cannot or will not compete, but we as a nation are not required to support other people if the expenditures lead to economic hardship for all.  A line must be drawn.

Liberal Americans reject any line.  They are happy to support layabouts, as demonstrated by their opposition to Medicaid work mandates.

Finally, capitalism has rewarded me, so I give millions to charity to help people I believe are in need.  Americans are the most generous people on earth in charitable giving.  But fairness means accountability.  The Trump bill spotlights that.  It should pass because if it doesn't, the socialists will take on huge momentum.  And that will be the ruin of America.
