Often I ask myself why I am working so hard after 45 years in journalism. Almost all my peers are playing golf or globetrotting - having fun in retirement.

But not me.

My latest book "Killing the Killers" is number one in the country, thanks to loyal readers. That's my 17th number one non-fiction tome.

Also, I'm on TV and radio daily during the week. Lots of stuff going on.

But why?

I like it, that's why. Although I tire more easily than I used to.

But then I see 78-year-old Mick Jagger hopping around on tour with the Stones ... the energizer bunny is exhausted watching him.

And then there's McCartney ... age 80 ... doing three-hour shows.

That revives me immediately. If those guys can continue ... so can I.

A side note: I don't believe Jagger actually eats food ... I mean the guy weighs like nine pounds.

There comes a time in life when most people stand down. As the Bible says: there's a time for every season.

But as long as a person is productive, no compelling reason to seek the early bird special.

As 81-year-old Beach Boy Mike Love continues to sing ... 'fun, fun, fun, til' her daddy takes the T-Bird away.'
