President Trump signed another Executive Order on Thursday directing federal funds into cities actively trying to mitigate the homeless problem.  The tax dollars will be used for shelters and treatment centers.

Places like New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are not likely to receive much federal help because they enable the homeless, allowing them to pretty much do whatever they want, even if their actions hurt the public.

Generally speaking, liberal governance embraces permissive behavior across the board.  Misguided liberal policies lead to overdose deaths, child addiction, depravity, and disease.  A substance abuser contributes little to society but is rarely held accountable for misdeeds.

The liberal mantra is that society doesn't provide "treatment."  Nonsense.  Ask any drug counselor, and he or she will tell you most addicts don't want to change.  They enjoyed being inebriated and didn't worry much about consequences.

This addiction thing has been a constant in America for about 100 years.

Countries like China and Singapore don't have homeless problems because narcotics are not tolerated.  Harsh punishment befalls addicts in those nations, so presto, street people vanish.

We in America are more compassionate.  I guess.  But is it humane to allow people to destroy themselves in public view?  To let them ruin neighborhoods, corrupt others, spread AIDS, and other communicable illnesses?

No, it's not humane.  It's cowardly.

People who sell narcotics should be incarcerated for a decent stretch of time. Addicts and abusers must try to kick it or serve time as well.

Do that.  The homeless conundrum will disappear.

New column on Sunday.
