ICE recently launched a major crackdown on illegal migrants in and around the nation’s capital. The two-week operation in DC rounded up 1,328 people who are not supposed to be in the United States.

400 of them are felons: murderers, rapists, child abusers, on and on.

ICE needs to tell the public exactly who got arrested and what will happen to them. Obviously, the criminals will be deported right away. But we don’t know which migrants already have deportation orders.

Many of these people have had their day in court, and the judge said, “No, you can’t stay.” That’s who ICE is arresting, but they don’t tell us how many.

That is an enormous mistake. I cannot tell you why the Trump administration has decided to do this.

The American public will support sensible immigration policy.

But you have to be transparent. Secrecy will not work.
