The Nation Reacts to the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

As usual, the national press has essentially misreported a very important story: the nation’s reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Utah authorities are providing the best factual accounting. Here are the most important points:

- The alleged killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, is not cooperating in the investigation.

- However, Robinson’s parents are giving information.

- Robinson’s live-in roommate, a person transitioning from male to female, is also speaking to investigators.

- Tyler Robinson apparently spent a lot of time on radical left social media hate sites. The Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, calls them “dark corners of the internet.”

- Robinson will appear in court on Tuesday. He will most likely plead not guilty, although the evidence against him is overwhelming.  His lawyers will probably go for the insanity defense.

As for a wider analysis, it breaks down along ideological lines.  A number of far-left Americans are happy that Charlie Kirk was murdered.  These are emotionally troubled people, some of whom are losing their jobs.

After Matthew Dowd was fired by MSNBC, the ardent left in the media quickly retreated.  Paychecks usually trump ideology.  On Fox News, Howard Kurtz said that Mr. Kirk “was not a saint.” That is a flat-out dumb statement.  None of us are saints.  Charlie Kirk’s personal beliefs have absolutely no validity in analyzing his unspeakable murder.

On the political front, President Trump believes dark money outfits are fueling violence.  George Soros was named.  Mr. Trump will direct the Justice Department to investigate these groups, which are extremely well-funded.

Finally, ever since the George Floyd riots, the Democratic Party and the leftist media that supports it have had a perception problem among Americans who are not ideological, which is most of the population.

That situation has now reached critical mass in America, with the far left very likely to be significantly marginalized.
