Under intense pressure from everywhere, President Trump and the First Lady flew to Iraq on Christmas night to meet US troops there. Predictably, some Trump haters on TV maligned the trip.

It’s just so boring. Having visited American troops in Iraq at the height of the war there, I know firsthand how the troops appreciate the attention. Iraq is a dreadful place, deployment there is difficult. The President’s trip was a good thing because it boosted the morale of many troops.

There is no question that Mr. Trump must rethink his confrontational approach to governing. He is losing some support within his own party and the stock market is a tremendous concern that affects every single American. But the President should be lauded when he does something good and visiting Iraq qualifies.
