The Tool of the Devil

There are theologians that believe the Smart Phone is a tool of the devil, a device that will prevent millions of people from living lives of honor.

The basis for this belief is that there is instant access to evil  right in your hand. Every vice can be indulged; drugs can be purchased, gambling, illicit sex, adultery, defamation, cheating on examinations, financial fraud - you name it - the Smart Phone can serve it up. To everyone. No boundaries.

Those of us who were raised before the high tech revolution have a better chance of controlling the situation because in many cases morality is hard wired into us. We can recite the Ten Commandments and understand the necessity of them in a civil society.

But many younger Americans have no moral guidelines whatsoever. They live in a world where their wants and needs are all that matters.

The Smart phone calls and tempts those weak and uneducated people.  It dominates millions of lives every hour on the hour. There is no moderation in cyberspace.  If it feels good, do it.  To borrow a phrase from the 1960's.

So the judgmental theologians are correct. Satan's soul-stealing job is now much easier since the world has taken a big bite of the apple.  So to speak.
