The big one looms. China. One point five billion people. Communist police state. Not a laugh a minute over there. As Buffalo Springfield once sang: "Step out of line, they come and take you away."
But there's one big thing: China needs to sell stuff in the USA. Advantage: President Trump.
Having spent three days in Beijing during May, I acquired a unique perspective on this trade-tariff situation. In a lengthy conversation with high-ranking Chinese officials, it was clear to me that they want to do business with America and are willing to be reasonable in order to achieve that.
So, now, the expectation is that Trump and Xi will soon meet in Beijing. Odds are a trade deal will happen. That would be a tremendous plus for the world and President Trump's greatest success.
Won't be easy. China will have to help on Ukraine, stop stealing our tech, and tamp down its overall bellicosity.
Hoping. As everyone should. Amazing opportunity ahead.
