One of the last old school television news commentators is Brit Hume, an honest guy.  The other day, he opined that President Trump might “fall into the same trap” President Obama did in the Middle East.

You may remember that Mr. Obama told the world he would punish the heinous Assad of Syria if he gassed protesters. Assad just briefly paused before letting the gas fly.

President Obama did nothing.

Now, President Trump has threatened Iran with military strikes if it continues brutalizing protesters. Hume says the President must back up his threat.

I see it differently. U.S. strikes against Iran will not ensure the Tehran government falls.  Unexpected consequences loom. So, a plan B deal might come into play. The Mullahs would release all political prisoners and submit to inspection on nukes.

That would humiliate the holy killers and embolden internal opposition.  If the Mullahs turn the offer down, well, destruction might come very soon.
