The insane positions put forth this week by Trump Haters Unlimited brings to mind the monumental works of 19th-century Russian literary masters Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky.
War and Peace: President Trump is trying mightily to stop the madness in the blood-soaked killing fields of Ukraine. His latest gambit is a sit-down with Vladimir Putin, which is admittedly akin to dealing with Satan himself. But what is there to lose? Well, just ask some of the usual suspects on the left.
CNN analyst Josh Rogin calls the meeting a ‘disaster’ and ‘the Ukrainian people’s worst nightmare.’ This genius delivered his verdict long before Air Force One departed for Alaska. Other critics include former Biden aide Neera Tanden, who was denied a Cabinet post because of her notorious nastiness, and John Bolton, who has never recovered from hearing Donald Trump’s pithy command: ‘You’re fired!’
Crime and Punishment. By now, you’re familiar with over-the-top left-wing reactions to President Trump’s initiative against wanton violence in Washington. CNN and MSNBC trotted out the tired old cast of characters to portray the president as the second coming of Hitler because he is fed up with killing, looting, and carjacking in the nation’s capital.
This has become standard operating procedure for too many Democrats. If Trump is for something, they absolutely, positively have to be against it. This particular malady goes far beyond ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ – it’s more of a virulent cancer eating away at their souls and spirits. Speaking of which, if Donald Trump cures cancer, the haters will blame him for a sudden spike in unemployment among oncologists.
The political ramifications of this bitterness may have lasting effects. Medical studies document that chronic anger can dramatically shorten life expectancy. Combine that with the fact that conservatives have far more children than liberals, and it spells demographic doom for self-proclaimed progressives, who are long on bitterness, short on fertility.
They may be wise to recall the words of American author Mark Twain, a contemporary of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky: ‘Anger is an acid,’ Twain wrote, ‘that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.’ Put another way, unrelenting hatred of all things Trump is detrimental to the body, the mind, and the soul.
