Abraham Lincoln was the most loathed President in history; Donald Trump second. Third? That might be Richard Nixon.
None of those men really understood the personal nature of the hatred directed toward them, and there was absolutely nothing they could do about it anyway. Lincoln’s quest to end slavery brought a war, Nixon’s self-absorption and insecurity resulted in presidential felonies, and then there’s Trump; a populist provocateur who got swamped in D.C. by a brutal and unrelenting partisan system.

Just before the Iran confrontation, I said the action would be the biggest gamble Donald Trump ever took. My analysis was based on Adolf Hitler, combined with American politics.
I understood that the Democratic opposition and its media enablers would never support an assault against the Mullahs. The press was tepid on Venezuela and actually agnostic about Mexico’s ongoing cartel problem. If Trump took action, it was wrong. Period. Cheerleaders will be blackballed.
The President actually did the right thing in trying to break Iran’s terror and nuke activities. But you will never hear that from Mr. Trump’s media detractors or members of his political opposition.
The massive problem with the Iranian action is the unintended consequences that have bolstered the Democratic Party. Americans don’t like the rise in retail prices. Affordability has replaced “cool” as the word of the year.
The Mullahs well understand the economic problems, and that is their chief weapon — Inflict pain on the American consumer and the worldwide financial marketplace.
That strategy should have been war-gamed out before the USA hit Iran last winter. It apparently was not.
Now, to Adolf — U.S. Intel and Mossad, the Israeli spies, both believe Iran was feverishly working on a nuclear weapon. These agencies are the best in the world.
But since the Trump haters want the President to be humiliated, they will not believe the Mullahs are a danger to the world no matter what the intel people say.
In 1938, it was clear that Hitler and his war machine were going to subjugate Europe and commit mass murder against Jews and others. The roundups had already begun. But millions of Americans and Europeans looked away, denying the massive danger. Even President Roosevelt didn’t want to get involved and only relented because of Winston Churchill’s persistence.
Meanwhile, 20,000 Americans gathered in Madison Square Garden to salute the Führer, bringing absolute delight to Berlin.
Today, few countries in the world are supporting the action against Iran. The USA and Trump stand mostly alone with Israel.
Finally, my most recent book is “Confronting Evil.” On the cover are Hitler and the Ayatollah Khomeini, as well as Putin and Mao. Heinous killers all.
In the past, Evil has usually been defeated, as you will read in the book.
Not sure about this time.
