The must-have companion to Bill O'Reilly's historical docudrama Legends and Lies: The Patriots, an exciting and eye-opening look at the Revolutionary War through the lives of its leaders.

The American Revolution was neither inevitable nor a unanimous cause. It pitted neighbors against each other, as loyalists and colonial rebels faced off for their lives and futures. These were the times that tried men's souls: no one was on stable ground and few could be trusted. Through the fascinating tales of the first Americans, Legends and Lies: The Patriots reveals the contentious arguments that turned friends into foes and the country into a warzone.

From the riots over a child's murder that led to the Boston Massacre to the suspicious return of Ben Franklin, the "First American;" from the Continental Army's first victory under George Washington's leadership to the little known southern Guerilla campaign of "Swamp Fox" Francis Marion, and the celebration of America's first Christmas, The Patriots recreates the amazing combination of resourcefulness, perseverance, strategy, and luck that led to this country's creation.

Heavily illustrated with spectacular artwork that brings this important history to vivid life, and told in the same fast-paced, immersive narrative as the first Legends and Lies, The Patriots is an irresistible, adventure-packed journey back into one of the most storied moments of our nation's rich history.

A "can't put down" read--clever and entertaining history of our great nation presented in a way that held my interest even though history was my least favorite subject in school. Too bad Bill's books are not used in every school in our nation. So many facts I never knew, and lots of additional info even after viewing his docudrama on TV--twice! Thanks, Bill, for another job well done. Looking forward to the next great book. Your books have been a God-send for my now disabled but previously very active, 85 yr. old husband, who is so bored with everything, but really uplifted when reading these great historical books. Thank you.

A fantastic book, and a great TV series. We watched every episode of the TV series and my wife said it would be great to have the book. The book is great. There is so much in the book that we did not learn in school. We both agreed it would have been great to have had Bill O'Reilly as a History teacher in high school. He is able to bring history to life. Thank you Bill for a great book and TV series. Hopefully there is a DVD of this coming out soon.

We are enjoying learning about the challenges and sacrifices of our patriotic forefathers. The obituary of my GGGGGF John Lary documented that he fought at Brandywine, Germantown, Guilford Court House and the Cowpens; and was present for the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown. He served under General Wayne but his greatest boast was that he endured hardships, underwent suffering, and submitted to every privation in common with the immortal Washington himself, during that trying period, that the American Army was encamped at Valley Forge.
