Product Description
A riveting historical narrative of the heart-stopping events surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the first work of history from mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly

The anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history-how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of incredibly bloody battles. President Abraham Lincoln's generous terms for Robert E. Lee's surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln's dream of healing a divided nation, with the former Confederates allowed to reintegrate into American society. One man and his band of murderous accomplices, perhaps reaching into the highest ranks of the U.S. government, are not appeased.

In the midst of the patriotic celebrations in Washington, D.C., John Wilkes Booth-charismatic ladies' man and impenitent racist-murders Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater. A furious manhunt ensues and Booth immediately becomes the country's most wanted fugitive. Lafayette C. Baker, a brilliant but enigmatic New York detective and former Union spy, unravels the string of clues leading to Booth, while federal forces track his accomplices. The thrilling chase ends in a fiery shootout and a series of court-ordered executions-including that of the first woman ever executed by the U.S. government, Mary Surratt. With an unforgettable cast of characters, vivid historical detail, and page-turning action, Killing Lincoln is history that reads like a thriller.

Mr. O'Reilly has hit it out of the park once again! A fascinating look into one of America's greatest tragedies. I am a faithful follower of both the show as well as his writing. Already having read 5 previously penned books by Mr. O'Reilly, all with equal pleasure. (Although, I must admit, I simply could not put this one down!) This work will please both history and Civil War buffs, not to mention, ALL Americans! I passed it along to my 17 year old daughter and dad simply cannot express his gratitude that she is enjoying it as much as myself. She has once again acquired the knowledge and pleasure of sitting down and reading a book, something our "next generation" has been slowly losing along the way. I tip my hat to you Sir, you have done an outstanding job and I patiently await my signed copy of "Killing Jesus". (patiently?) Who am I trying to kid, I cannot wait to tear into that one as well!

I am not a "reader" and rarely finish a book, even with the best of intentions. I got "Killing Lincoln" to read on vacation never assuming that I would actually finish it. I not only read the book cover to cover, I read it twice, gave it to a family member, and then bought "Killing Kennedy" and finished it, too!! All within one week!! What great historical thrillers! I am now a huge fan and can't wait to get "Keep It Pithy" and "Killing Jesus". I think I may become a "reader" after all!! Bob H. (Dallas, TX)
