Wednesday: The Trump vs. Clinton Main Event is Now Set
Thank God the Primaries are Over
"So it's on to the main event: Hillary Clinton versus Donald Trump for the presidency. Over the next few months we will be bombarded with personal attacks, deception, fraud, fear and loathing. Here is Hillary Clinton's strategy: First, paint Trump as a bigot, a man who despises Latinos, blacks, women, whomever. Second, portray him as unstable, a president who would bomb Portugal if they tee him off over there. As for Mr. Trump, his main campaign points are these: First, portray her as a criminal. Second, convince Americans that she will carry on the policies of Barack Obama, which have led to deep disenchantment, especially in the economy. So there will not be much nuance in the upcoming campaign. The truth is, most Americans have already made up their minds. There are very few who are still confused over whether Secretary Clinton or Donald Trump is the best candidate. Also, the end of the primaries means Bernie Sanders is headed to the locker room. Maybe. There is no chance that Sanders will be the Democratic nominee for president, but put yourself in his position. What else does the senator have to do? Unless you are fascinated by cows, hanging around Vermont doesn't offer very much. So Bernie will go to the convention to get his accolades, but you won't be seeing much of him anymore. Summing up, there is a nasty campaign ahead with very simple strategies. I hope you get to take a long vacation this summer."

The Factor spoke about the campaign with political analyst Richard Sammon and pollster Patrick Murray. "We will see a bump for Hillary Clinton," Murray predicted, "but the question is how long that bump will hold and what else is going to happen. Also, what happens to voters in both parties who aren't happy with their nominees?" Sammon lamented that the upcoming race promises to be down and very dirty. "Yes, thank God the primaries are over, but now we have to live with this for four more months. Donald Trump, at the very time he is supposed to be expanding his base, is hitting it like a piñata. And Hillary Clinton has finally busted through the glass ceiling but she has a lot of broken glass to step around - everything from the emails to the Clinton Foundation questions. It's going to be a nasty autumn."
What Are the Top Campaign Issues of 2016?
Eboni Williams and Monica Crowley looked ahead to the general election and the most important issues. "The most important things," Crowley declared, "are rebuilding the military, a strong national defense, and fighting the existential threat of Islamic fundamentalism. Unless you take on those issues, nothing else matters. The second item is illegal immigration and reinforcing the border." Williams stressed the importance of education. "Education is the most compelling thing that can have the biggest impact. We have to talk candidly and directly about school choice. My second most important issue is criminal justice reform." The Factor contended that the top three issues are the economy, immigration, and the war against ISIS.
Illegal Immigration in America
Secretary of State John Kerry recently spoke glowingly about a "borderless world," which inspired this exposition by The Factor: "Secretary Kerry doesn't seem to have a problem with the 'borderless world' deal, and the Democratic candidates for president don't see much urgency either. If Mrs. Clinton is elected and keeps her word, it will mean amnesty for most illegal aliens who are here, and Senator Sanders doesn't want anybody in this country illegally to even be questioned. Liberal Americans generally oppose stopping people from coming here without documentation, while Republicans want strict immigration procedures. The director of ICE has told a congressional committee that her agency released more than 86,000 criminal illegal aliens over a two-year period. So this is not just a jobs and humanitarian issue, it's a public safety issue as well. America can not absorb millions of foreigners coming in at will, yet that is what the open border crowd wants. It is insane! There is a way to get illegal immigration under control and still have a legal immigration program that gives foreign nationals opportunities. But there must be harsh punishment for those who violate a fair immigration program. But that is not in the liberal playbook and all Americans should understand that."
Is the NY Times Best-Seller List Honest?
The Factor alleged that something is amiss with the New York Times important best-seller list. The new book "Legends & Lies: The Patriots' debuted at #1 on the Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly lists, but it is number six on the Times list. Also, 'Legends & Lies' has sold far more books than 'The Gene,' which tops the Times list. The Times editor refused an invitation to appear, but two publishing experts spoke about the list. "The Times plays games all the time with many of our books," groused Marji Ross of Regnery Publishing, "and many of our authors have experienced the same thing you have experienced." Marketing consultant Tim Grahl agreed that the Times list is questionable. "They're selecting the data that fulfills what they are looking for, they are sampling the stores to make sure that the list leans the way they want it to list. The New York Times best-seller list should have a big asterisk!"
Republican Resistance to Trump
The Factor welcomed Congressman Bill Flores of Texas, one of a number of Republicans who won't directly endorse Donald Trump. "I won't endorse him," Flores explained, "but I do intend to vote for him. We want Mr. Trump to focus on how to stop the Obama and Clinton agenda, not be throwing bricks on other people based on their ethnicity. He wants all of us in Washington to support him, but first he has to tell us how he's going to lead us forward in a successful direction. The American people want to hear a positive vision."
Danger for the Speaker?
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is being challenged in Wisconsin by Tea Party conservative Paul Nehlen, who recently shot a commercial in which he walked right across the Rio Grande River to show how easy it is to smuggle drugs into America. FNC anchor Martha MacCallum opined on the spot. "It's a good ad," she said, "and he is trying to take advantage of what Donald Trump is standing for - having a tougher Border Patrol and opposing trade deals. These are things he feels Paul Ryan has betrayed people on. Nehlen previously supported Paul Ryan, but has now decided that he'll run against him. But Ryan has approval ratings of 81% in his district."

Factor Words of the Day
Vincent Todarello, New York, NY: "Racism is a belief that one race is superior to others. Trump's comment about the judge was not racist. It may not have been smart, but Dr. Krauthammer should know better than to make it a race issue."

Matt DeJulio, East Fallowfield, PA: "Bill, Charles laid you on your heels by simply speaking logically. No amount of excuses can negate Trump's appeal to racists across the country."

Kathy Murphy, Carlsbad, CA: "Maybe Trump understands that many of us have been victims of judges who rule from their ideological belief systems."
A Superb Sunday Show
This coming Sunday's edition of "Legends & Lies: The Patriots" on FNC focuses on the Boston Tea Party and John Adams. You'll be entertained and informed.
