Is the Democratic Party in Serious Trouble?
"We need two vibrant parties in this country. Robust debate and different points of view strengthen the nation. But a big change is taking place. The term 'Loyal Opposition' in politics is now devolving into just 'opposition.' The 'loyal' has left the building. In President Trump's case, no matter what he does, there are some Democrats who will oppose him, and that is harmful to America. Also there is deception. Last night, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said this: 'In our sanctuary cities, our people are not disobeying the law.' That is flat out untrue, a deceit that is outrageous. Congresswoman Pelosi well knows that in San Francisco, her hometown, an illegal alien deported five times is charged with murdering 32-year-old Kate Steinle. All over the country, Americans are outraged that a beautiful woman like Kate Steinle was gunned down by a foreign felon who had illegally crossed into this country six times. Yet Mrs. Pelosi has the gall to say that in the sanctuary city of San Francisco, our people are not disobeying the law. If one of the most high profile leaders of the Democratic Party is that arrogant, that dishonest, what does this say about the party in general? Senator Tim Kaine, who ran with Hillary Clinton and was not a factor in the vote, pretty much disappearing during the campaign, is proud of his party's rebellious stance. This week he said this: 'What we've got to do is fight in Congress, fight in the courts, fight in the streets, fight online, fight at the ballot box, and now there's the momentum to be able to do this. And we're not afraid of the popular outcry, we're energized by it and that's going to help us do our job and do it better.' Senator Kaine says he's not afraid of the popular outcry. Well he should be. Talking Points wants a strong Democratic Party as well as a vibrant Republican Party. But right now, there is political civil war that is actually harming the USA. And until politicians stop the deceit and embrace policies that help all Americans, the war will continue.'

The Factor continued with Geraldo Rivera and Eric Bolling. "In terms of undocumented immigrants and whether or not they commit more crimes per capita," Rivera began, "you have clearly won that debate among our audience. But in terms of the Democratic Party, they will be more effective in opposition than they were in power. An example is sanctuary cities, which are spreading. Local law enforcement has deemed this necessary so they can have the trust of undocumented immigrants." But Bolling vehemently disputed Rivera's rationale. "Geraldo is saying there are more sanctuary cities because local law enforcement wants to use illegals as snitches, but that's ludicrous. This is happening because there has been no penalty for breaking federal law. But if Donald Trump cuts off federal funding, watch how many sanctuary cities say it isn't such a good idea."
California: Sanctuary State?
Some Democratic lawmakers in California are proposing that the entire state declare itself a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The Factor scrutinized that idea with California law professor John Eastman. "California and its cities get $330-billion a year from the federal government," Eastman said, "and all of that is at risk. One of the conditions on all of those grants is that you have to comply with federal law, and that law says no state can tell its officials to not cooperate with ICE. But some California officials have become ideologically hard-line left on this and don't want enforcement of our immigration laws." The Factor warned of a major showdown, saying, "I think the Trump administration would absolutely withhold funding, even though it would cause mass chaos."
Refugee Crisis: Obama's Fault?
Many foreign policy observers posit that the worldwide refugee situation is largely due to the Obama administration's fecklessness in Syria and the Middle East. Former Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich entered the No Spin Zone with his take on the issue. "I'm opposed to U.S. intervention," he declared. "Iraq, which was under President Bush's watch, created a lot of refugees, and Libya and Syria, during President Obama's watch, created refugees. If you don't have war you don't have refugees and the presidents have to take responsibility." The Factor countered by saying that sometimes non-intervention can also create desperate refugees: "Syria is ground zero for the refugee problem. We let Assad the butcher kill his people and we didn't intervene, causing a refugee crisis."
Travel Ban Controversy
Many liberal Americans went berserk when Donald Trump signed an executive order banning refugees from seven predominantly Muslim nations. The Factor was joined by Fox Business Network anchor Lou Dobbs, who defended the Trump move. "The administration had a perfectly good reason for not building a broad and consensus-building program," he said. "They wanted to not announce this so they would not be inviting in terrorists and others who knew there would be an extreme vetting process. They had no choice! The anti-Trump people will try anything to propagandize against him non-stop."
Miller on Bringing the Country Together
The Factor asked Dennis Miller how he would bridge America's political chasm. "The red and blue states are probably as balkanized as the Crips and the Bloods," Miller observed, "but it hasn't gotten violent and it's not near a civil war. We don't really hate each other, so I came up with an idea for how the country can break up. There should be two border walls so that there would be an east coast, a west coast, and all the rest in the middle. We could have tube between the two coasts so that people could go back and forth. Everyone could pick where they want to live and we would all mellow out. Let's split up before we get really vile!"
Lady Gaga & The Super Bowl
FNC's Martha MacCallum looked ahead to Sunday's Super Bowl and a Budweiser commercial that implicitly extols immigration. "It cost $12- to $14-million to make the ad," she reported, "and it will cost $5.5-million for thirty seconds. I don't know if they expected controversy, but it's now coming out at the same time that all these issues that are cropping up." MacCallum also predicted that Lady Gaga will get political during her halftime performance. "The National Football League knows where she is coming from, and if they were really worried they would not have chosen her. They love the controversy, they want everybody to tune in."

Factor Words of the Day
Alex Hyman, New York, NY: "Bill, your oversimplification of conservative versus liberal jurisprudence and bumbling analysis of the Gorsuch analysis shows you are clueless. Kindly do your viewers a service and invite a first-year law student on your program."

Reggie Burnaman, Glenmora, LA: "Bill, when you read Senator's Schumer's statement attacking Judge Gorsuch, you were right. He had the statement written before the announcement was made."

Doug Shield, Newcastle upon Tyne, England: "Bill, it's not just you. Most sane people in the U.K. believe the edict about not using the term 'expectant mother' is an insane piece of P.C. madness."
